As a child, Margie Benedict devoured Nancy Drew mysteries, escaping into a world where a girl could accomplish anything. The way Nancy used her wits and determination to solve crimes inspired Margie to become an engineer. She worked at Apple as the only woman on the system design team. Hoping to encourage a new generation of girls the way Nancy did, Margie left Apple to pursue her dream of writing fiction. When breaking in proved hard, she channeled her frustration into the dark humor of her screenplay, Dead in the Room, which became an award-winning film starring Patrick J. Adams (Suits) after winning the Slamdance Screenwriting Competition. She made the protagonist of her first novel (Dreadmarrow) a locksmith’s apprentice, and gave her the inconceivable task of stealing a conjurer’s most prized possession. Ten novels later, she still throws impossible challenges at her reluctant heroines, forcing them on perilous journeys to achieve their goals. In Margie’s latest, a 63-year-old woman trapped in a toxic marriage must defy her controlling husband or lose her last chance at love—proving it’s never too late to delve deep inside yourself and discover what makes you extraordinary. Margie’s books celebrate the Nancy Drew in all of us. Margie lives in beautiful coastal Massachusetts with the husband (and dog!) she chose after her midlife awakening.
