A fan of mysteries since a childhood obsession with Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, D. R. Meredith has written three mystery series set in the Texas Panhandle, a little-known area of the state even to other Texans. Two titles, MURDER BY IMPULSE and MURDER BY DECEPTION, in the John Lloyd Branson series were finalists for the Anthony Award. An equal obsession with the American West inspired her to create two historical sagas, A TIME TOO LATE and THE RECKONING, which she describes as "two hanky books for readers who want their hearts tugged while satisfying their curiosity about the Old West." Continuing her obsession with the American West, Meredith's newest historical title is MURDER IN THE MOON WHEN THE LEAVES FALL, A SPOTTED TONGUE COMANCHE WARRIOR MYSTERY. It is the first title in the Spotted Tongue Mystery Series and has already won a Global Book Award in the Mystery - Crime Fiction Category. Meredith is passionate about the history and culture of the Comanche people, and spent years gathering factual material before plotting her proposed twelve titles about Spotted Tongue and his people. "The series is a blend of Comanche culture and history of the Old West," Meredith states. "There will be murders for Spotted Tongue to solve, but the emphasis in the novels will always be the escalating conflict with United States government and the migration of white settlers into territory claimed by the Comanche. The series begins in 1867 at the Great Peace Council at Medicine Lodge Creek, Kansas, and ends with the Comanche's defeat and the settlement of the remains of Spotted Tongue's people on a reservation near Fort Sill, Indian Territory in 1875," continues Meredith. "I hope the reader enjoys learning about Spotted Tongue and his people." A member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and Western Writers of America, she was the book review editor for ROUNDUP MAGAZINE for more than twenty years, Meredith owns a private library of more than 5,000 books on the American West.
