About this listen
My heart is broken, my pride shattered to pieces on that altar.
He walked away so easily, too easily, and I know none of us will ever forgive him.
We have bigger issues to focus on, though, here in Salem.
My stalker is becoming more agitated, more violent. I’m constantly looking over my shoulder, chasing after ghosts for answers.
Add in my three boyfriends, my evil father and my new sadistic father in law and we are all in for an adventure I’m not sure I want to survive.
One thing is for sure, though, making our way out of this, dead or alive is going to be one hell of a Descent.

We follow on directly from book one, with no time at all having passed, reading as the characters are all picking themselves up after where we left them in the previous books following the harrowing and shocking events. The brutality of the ending of book one has shaken our group and shifted the tenuous foundations on which the relationships between them were built. With the perceptions of certain characters having been completely overhauled following their actions we just don’t know what to expect next. There continues to be a multiple POV in place providing us with the feelings and perceptions of the characters to various situations, further enhancing the dynamic and interactions between them. The main focus of this book continues to be Skyla and how she, along with her guys have to navigate the dangerous waters of the ruling society and the elders. With secrets to uncover left right and centre and her stalker still out there tormenting her, we are left once again with more questions than answers as we begin to put the puzzle pieces of this story and the past together.
I will say this, Skyla is not my favourite character in the book but this doesn’t make me enjoy it less. I simply find her demeanour isn’t always for me as I’m reading the book, and I find her guys way more interesting alongside the mystery of her stalker. Having said this I do really find the interactions with her guys wonderful, from the simple to the spicy. I could talk about each of her guys for ages, as they each bring different qualities to the story and the group which is what makes it work. Despite how they differ they all love Skyla in their own unique ways and will do anything to keep her safe. The lengths that they go to for her are absolutely spectacular, and them learning to share her continues to develop in this book solidifying the group further.
Like I’ve said, my favourite part of this story is the mystery of who is stalking Skyla Paris. I had a theory in book one which got absolutely torn to shreds in this book and with the ending I’m left reeling and needing more. So dang thankful that I have the next book ready to go and that I’m not left waiting as that would be torture. I have so many unanswered questions as to how we have got to this point and where we are going next. The story is well balanced between the spice and the plot, Katelyn uses the spice for a huge amount of relationship and character development which is great rather than it feeling pointless and empty. Pacing is medium with an ebb and flow that hints at giving us information keeping us on the hook for the next reveal.
I listened to the audiobook of this and the full cast narration is something I’m not going to be able to convert back from. The narration is astounding, full of emotion and depth that had me feeling all of the feels. I have come to know the narrators now which makes the book feel comforting, as well as keeping you on the edge which is a fabulous balance.
I’m off to read the next book now as there’s no way I’m waiting any longer.
