Imagine taking a flight to the stars! Yo pretends to take a rocket into the sky to visit the stars–only he wonders if he will see the stars. Yo doesn’t want to crash into them if he can’t see them!

Yo says his toy animal, polar bear, wants to know why the polar regions stay cold! Yo’s father shows him a globe of the earth! Did you know the sun doesn’t shine on the North and South Poles strong enough to keep it warm? Yo learns that because the earth is tilted, sunlight shines brightly in the middle of the earth, and dimly on the Poles. What will Yo learn when he sees a flashlight?

Yo knows just what to do if he catches fire–stop drop and roll! Yo visits the fire station and learns how to put out dangerous flames by rolling around on the ground. He learns that running and waving your arms makes fire get bigger. Yo practices what to do and what not to do in case of fire. Would you know what to do to protect yourself? Yo and his parents are visiting a tower for sightseeing. He can’t wait to get to the top—the building looks like it can touch the top of the sky! After riding the elevator to the top, Yo can see the city outside through the windows. What will Yo see once he reaches the top? Will he like being up that high?

Yo and his grandfather have car trouble on their way to the movies–their car breaks down! John the tow truck driver helps them move the car to a repair shop. Yo tells John the car made noises then the car stopped. John shows Yo how a tow bar slides under the car, and a lever lifts the car up onto the truck to be taken to the repair shop! How did the lever help make John’s work easier?

Yo visits the library and reads a story, a fiction book about elephants who can swim. Yo doesn’t think elephants would make good swimmers–he thinks they’re too heavy! The librarian shows Yo how to find non-fiction books about elephants. Yo likes the book about real elephants and is surprised to learn elephants are great swimmers after all! What are some fiction or nonfiction books that you know?

Yo cuts his finger on a glass and needs his grandfather’s help–Yo’s grandfather knows just what to do to! Yo learns from his mother that there are tiny germs that could get into the cut, so Yo’s grandfather fights the germs with soap and water! Can you guess what his grandfather does next to help? How does Yo’s grandfather stop the bleeding?

Yo and her grandmother to visit the Little Blueberries Organic U-Pick Farm. They need to pick a lot of blueberries so her grandfather can make a special dessert! Can you guess what treat her grandfather is going to make with their favorite fruit?

Doctors, nurses, and people who work in hospitals use stethoscopes to listen to their patients’ hearts and bodies. It makes sounds loud so the doctor can hear better. Yo’s mother has an old stethoscope that Yo uses to listen to her own heart and stomach. Yo places it on her head. What sounds will she hear? Find out what else Yo can hear with the stethoscope!

Jennifer needs to get her special toy out of the room where her baby sister, Kaitlin, is sleeping. Jennifer and Yo try not to wake Jennifer from her nap while getting her stuffed snake toy–Kaitlin was fast asleep but awakens and begins to cry!

Yo’s favorite thing about rays is the way their bodies feel soft and smooth. Yo and her grandmother visit an aquarium full of sharks and rays where Yo learns about rays, like how they flap their wings to swim in the water. Yo thinks the way their back and belly change color to camouflage from predators is a good trick! Learn all about rays with Yo!

Yo learns an important rule about using a campfire when she goes camping with her mother and father. Yo notices land destroyed by a forest fire. Yo visits the beach with his mother who reminds Yo they need to use sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun. Yo wonders why his mother tells him to drink water–then Yo gets very thirsty! Yo helps his grandfather make the compost bin by mixing shredded paper, dirt, and water together in the bin. Now, the worms are ready for their new home!
