In the village of Lauscha in Germany, things have been done the same way for centuries. The men blow the glass, and the women decorate and pack it. But when Joost Steinmann passes away unexpectedly one September night, his three daughters must learn to fend for themselves. Die Berliner Fabrikantentochter Isabelle hat gegen den Willen ihrer Eltern den attraktiven Leon Feininger geheiratet. Sie geht mit ihm in die Champagne, wo er ein Weingut geerbt hat. Isabelle ist verzaubert von der einzigartigen Landschaft. Als Leon tödlich verunglückt, steht sie jedoch vor dem Nichts. Dank der tatkräftigen Unterstützung zweier außergewöhnlicher Männer und der Arbeit in den Weinbergen findet Isabelle ihren Lebensmut wieder.

Now, with her reputation in near ruins thanks to the scandal that rocked her marriage, no reputable chemist will hire her. Worst of all, she has lost all rights to her young son and daughter.

Dezember im malerischen Allgäu. Maierhofen liegt friedlich im Schnee. Der Trubel des Kräuter-der-Provinz-Festivals ist nur noch eine schöne Erinnerung. Langweilig wird es im Genießerdorf jedoch nicht: Der erste Weihnachtsmarkt steht bevor. Wird es den Maierhofenern gelingen, das Wahre und Gute in den Winter hinüberzuretten? Therese freut sich auf Feiertage in trauter Zweisamkeit, doch jemand will ihre Pläne durchkreuzen. Und während es Christine vor ihrem ersten Fest alleine graut, werden Roswitha und Edy auf die Probe gestellt. Probleme brauen sich zusammen wie Winterstürme.

Gerade erst haben sich Mimi Reventlow und ihr langjähriger Geschäftspartner Anton ihre Liebe gestanden. Und dennoch entscheidet sich die Wanderfotografin wie vor vielen Jahren schon einmal gegen den sicheren Hafen der Ehe und bricht stattdessen zu neuen Ufern auf! An der Westküste Amerikas - genauer gesagt in Hollywood - wartet ein spannender Auftrag auf sie. Für einen großen Bildband soll Mimi den derzeit größten weiblichen Stummfilmstar der Vereinigten Staaten fotografieren.

Münsingen, 1914. Mimi und Anton sind inzwischen Geschäftspartner geworden, die sich auf der Schwäbischen Alb etabliert haben. Während auch Mimis Freunde Bernadette, Corinne und Alexander voller Tatendrang sind, verschärft sich das politische Klima in Deutschland zunehmend. Der Ausbruch des Ersten Weltkrieges zerstört jäh ihre Träume, und auf einmal ist nichts mehr, wie es war. Während die Männer an die Front ziehen müssen, ist in Münsingen die Stunde der Frauen gekommen.

Nach dem Tod ihres Onkels Josef hat Mimi Reventlow Laichingen verlassen und ihre Arbeit als Wanderfotografin wiederaufgenommen. Doch sie ist nicht mehr allein unterwegs, denn der Gastwirtsohn Anton hat sich Mimi angeschlossen. Gemeinsam bereisen die beiden das Land und wollen nach der dörflichen Enge Laichingens endlich großstädtischen Trubel erleben. Während ihres Aufenthalts in Berlin gelingt es Anton, einen florierenden Postkartenhandel aufzubauen, während Mimi dagegen immer öfter Schwierigkeiten hat, in ihrem Metier als Wanderfotografin eine Gastanstellung zu finden.

Württemberg im Jahr 1850. Auf der Suche nach dem Mann, der sie im elterlichen Gasthof Nürnberg geschwängert hat, kommt die junge Hannah Brettschneider in ein Dorf am Fuß der schwäbischen Alb: Gönningen ist die Heimat der Samenhändler, die seit fast zwei Jahrhunderten vom Geschäft mit Tulpenzwiebeln, Blumen- und Gemüsesamen leben. In ganz Europa verkaufen sie ihre Sämereien, bis nach Rußland und Amerika führen ihre Reisen.

Josefine lernt auf einer Reise in den Schwarzwald die gefährliche, für Frauen geradezu skandalöse Leidenschaft des Radfahrens kennen...

Lauscha, ein kleines Glasbläserdorf im Thüringer Wald im Jahre 1890: Der Glasbläser Joost Steinmann stirbt und die drei Töchter Johanna, Marie und Ruth stehen völlig mittellos da. Als aber der amerikanische Geschäftsmann Woolworth auf seiner Einkaufstour zufällig auf die schönen Christbaumkugeln aus Lauscha aufmerksam wird, gibt er eine Großbestellung für Amerika in Auftrag...
