First published in 1881, the subtitle of this book tells us that it was written “for children and those who love children”. Heidi, a 5-year-old orphan, is handed off by her young Aunt Dete to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. Though her new life is foreign, Heidi soon falls in love with her grandfather, and he with her. They share a contented life of goat-herding. But when Grandfather refuses to allow Heidi to attend school in the small village below, quarrels ensue.

The Unicorn Princess is setting up for her birthday party and realizes that she has forgotten the cake. She grabs her mother's recipe card to make her favorite cake and all the necessary ingredients, except she finds she doesn't have her favorite berries and heads to town to buy her favorite berries by way of the scary Zorak forest. The Unicorn Princess isn't scared or alone for long because she meets some new friends along the way who help her reach the town to buy the berries for her cake. Grateful for her newfound friends, she invites them to her birthday party.

While migrating south for the winter, Emmett the eagle becomes the target of an evil hunter and meets a special little boy named Kevin. They form a friendship that will last a lifetime!
