  • I’m Willie Horton and I’m a psychologist - from Dublin Ireland, living in the French Alps - each week we explore how to change the way you think and... change your life. Cognitive psychology and neuroscience provide the evidence that anyone - that means you! - can take charge of how the mind works, restructure the brain's key components and... change your life. The really cool news is: what you need to do to change your life is breathtakingly simple and you'll find your health, wealth, fitness, wellbeing, happiness and peace of mind simply flow when you're flowing in the moment. And you can get involved too - we can start talking in my private Facebook Group called… To Succeed… Just Let Go - just let go here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/100414346687833 To find out more about me go to: https://www.willie-horton.com

Yes, we're talking about family in this episode: family relationships, dysfunctional families, family feuds, normal crazy people behaving... normally!

We could come at it from the perspective of sibling rivalry, parental shortcomings - something we recently explored in The Age of Adolescence - or the so-called "Developmental Niche". But, forget all that, we need to look at it through the knowledge that you already have from listening to this podcast.

In short, we address how to navigate your way through what, for many (even if they won't admit it by papering over the cracks) is something akin to a minefield.

We address how to look after yourself - you are the most important person in your life - and how to come to a place where, if the "normal crazies" are open to it, everyone can be a winner.

Most importantly, we address family dynamics from the perspective of your own energy and flow, bearing in mind, as we explored a couple of weeks ago, your free-flowing energy might just help others flow too.

You may not like what you hear in this episode for over 90% of illness is a result of lifestyle choices - in other words, most illnesses are self-inflicted.

Of course, like everything else in life, the great news is... if you're the problem, you're also the solution.

And this episode explores how this actually works in practice. More than that, it provides you with the one simple step that we can all take towards a happier and healthier life.

We explore the interplay between genetics - often the lame excuse that normal crazy people use to explain their lifestyle-induced medical conditions - and lifestyle choices.

And, as we explain in this video, there is, of course, an interplay between the two but it all boils down to this: when it comes to illness or potential illness, genetics "loads the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger".

What lifestyle choices are we talking about? Well, in actual fact, there's just the one!

Yes, as always, why would I complicate the simple... the one and only choice that we all need to get right is whether or not we're in control of our own state of mind because, when we are, we'll get all the other choices right.

And, again as always, we explain exactly how to make that one lifestyle choice and, for starters, how getting that choice right will totally reconfigure your physical health.

    But that's only for starters.

This is an episode about being a good parent. Being a good parent starts with being a loving person, a person that loves oneself. Actually, being a good parent is simply about... being.

In this episode, we explore development psychology, what happens during the third year of our lives, what parents, entirely unwittingly because they're not properly present, do to their children... obviously being completely unaware of it.

We explore adolescence - not the Netflix series although what happens in the Netflix series provides a useful foil for the subject matter of this episode. We explore adolescence in the context of how, if we have done things to our children when they were growing up, we can undo those things.

The lessons are simple - it's never too late to love: to love yourself and truly love your "loved ones". It's never too late to raise the lives of those around you by raising your own game, by becoming properly present.

And, of course, it's never to late for anything because... all we have is now - this is where and when we need to be at our best, to do our best, to create a better world.
