The resilience in the disclosure of our true self

  • Summary

  • To disclose is to make secret or new information known. Many of us do not disclose our true, whole self to the world, for fear of judgement, not being accepted and not having our voice heard. This week's special guest is Shawn Y. Holmes, DMD, PhD, the Founder & Co-Owner of The YOU in you Consulting. Shawn joins Beth in the resilience conversation to share the resilience she has found on her disclosure journey this past year. From avoidance tactics for decades to joining the National Stuttering Association (NSA) as part of her disclosure journey. The NSA is changing the narrative about stuttering to be a different way of speaking and Shawn is adding her voice to bring awareness and advocacy for #WeStutter and she is a true example of the resilience within embracing our true, whole selves. She is on a journey transitioning from a lifetime of endless energy exerted to hide her different way of speaking to disclose it and be in the moment with it. Shawn will share about the uniqueness of this speech disorder and the realities of a society who do not understand what stuttering is and in turn uphold the fun being made of this unique disability. In episode 12 of Resilience & You listen in to learn how powerfully resilient it is to adjust the energy you may be using to hide who you are and infuse that energy into YOU to embrace and love the uniqueness you bring into this world!
