  • Victorian Seances and A Rude Ghost - The Paranormal Podcast 887
    Jun 9 2025
Ghosts aren’t just relics of Victorian fiction—Dr. Kate Cherrell reveals how 19th-century spiritualists shaped the ghost-hunting traditions we still follow today. With a PhD in female mediumship and a lifelong fascination with the paranormal, Kate shares both her scholarly insights and personal experiences, from haunted homes to unsettling physical encounters. She explains how Victorian séances ranged from refined tea-time table-tipping to wild, theatrical performances involving everything from spirit gifts to (allegedly) teleporting mediums. If you thought modern ghost hunting was dramatic, wait until you hear about the woman who "materialized" on a séance table as a surprise gift. Jim and Dr. Cherrell also dive into how modern paranormal investigations differ—and eerily resemble—those of the past. They explore consciousness as a ghost-hunting tool, tales of time slips in Liverpool, and why ghosts may not be just spirits of the dead but something much stranger. You’ll also hear about Kate’s eerie run-in with a very hands-on spirit and how those experiences inspired her gothic novel Begotten. Whether you're into psychic history, hands-on investigation tips, or jaw-dropping séance stories, this episode will leave you questioning the very nature of reality. • The Tarot Is Much Deeper Than You Think - The Paranormal Podcast 886
    Jun 2 2025
Most people think of tarot as a tool for quick readings or fun at parties, but Lon Milo DuQuette argues there's a far deeper spiritual and metaphysical framework at play. In this fascinating conversation, Lon shares how the tarot operates on principles of mathematical and mystical perfection, rooted in the Kabbalah and informed by archetypal consciousness. He explains how the cards can serve not only as divination tools, but as a symbolic map of the very structure of reality itself—one that mirrors space, time, and human awareness. We also explore the rich esoteric history of the tarot, its origins in European card games, its transformation through the lens of human consciousness, and its relationship with astrology and ceremonial magic. Lon reflects on his personal favorite cards, the Fool and Justice, and how they embody the paradox of existence and non-existence. Whether you're a casual tarot user or a deep seeker of its hidden meanings, this conversation provides a compelling case for treating tarot as a guide for personal and spiritual architecture. I started listening to this show in 2020 by chance while searching for podcasts and interviews with Dr. Raymond Moody. Since then, I have been regularly tuning in because Jim covers such a wide variety of subjects. Sometimes, I think the topics are too far-reaching, but after listening, I feel more open-minded. Recently, I had a sighting of my own, which made me appreciate the show even more. Additionally, when hosts who have recently published books appear on the show, it's a great way to introduce their new works. If nothing else, listening to the show takes my mind off things for a while.
