Father’s Day weekend of 2015, 52-year-old Jose “Pepe” Rey and his wife, Lisette. were out walking their dog in their neighborhood in Kendall, which is a suburb of Miami, Florida. The couple made plans to have drinks at their neighbor’s house. Jose walked back home to secure the family dog and make a drink for his wife. On his way back to the neighbor’s house, he was confronted by 66-year-old, Omar Rodriguez. An altercation occurred between the two men and Jose Rey was shot three times. Omar Rodriguez claimed he had shot Jose in self defense, but witnesses at the scene told a different story.
