  • Les essais nucléaires français
    Jul 15 2025

In this episode, Gaelle goes back in time, post Second World War and the midst of the Cold War, when nuclear weapons were at the center of attention. France got its first nuclear bomb in 1954 and has been a nuclear power since then. But the development and testing of those bombs had to happen somewhere and that part of French history has its share of secrets, lies and deceit. Far from the metropole, the nuclear trials are still an open wound for many people.

I'm finding these podcasts an interesting and enjoyable way to improve my French. The difficulty level is well set so it's not hard to comprehend while learning new vocab

Fantastic learning resource

Good speed for me, and nice clear voice. Really helpful and varied talks about French life, ideas etc. Informative , varied and personal enough to keep it interesting. Slightly annoying, repetitive AI adverts are easy to fast forward through. You can change the speed of the recording to suit, but I found it's the right level for me.

Genuinely interesting talks.

Gaelle has a lovely speaking voice, she doesn’t speak too slow so that the liaisons disappear but not too fast that it’s hard to follow. The topics are interesting too which means i learn more about francophone culture and current affairs as well as historical topics.

Interesting and nice to listen to

Brilliant & really helpful podcast. Her slow talking means I’m able to understand so much more throughout the episode. By the time she gets to the summary in normal paced French, I can follow much better what is being said. Really great & helpful concept.
