About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Everyone has an opinion about Matt Rife, who at twenty-eight years old is both the hottest and most controversial comedian in America. Now, in his new book, Matt gives his legions of fans and haters plenty to talk about, with hilarious and dangerously revealing stories about his insane rise to stardom—from the trashy backroads of Ohio to the bedrooms of MILFs in LA to sold-out stadiums around the world.

Matt Rife is well aware that he’s both the most loved and the most controversial comic in America today. And honestly, he thinks that’s your problem.

In his very first book, Matt reveals without apology everything that led him to becoming comedy’s biggest lightning rod before he reached thirty, in a story full of bold and hysterical takes on everything from Justin Bieber tramp stamps and rap battles with ex-cons to Matt’s battles with depression and his many brushes with failure before finally hitting it big.

Born in trashy backwoods Ohio, Matt was saved by his foul-mouthed but loving grandpa Steve and a passion for standup. He started hitting comedy clubs before he could even drink, cutting his teeth in front of mostly Black crowds who dared him to succeed. Matt honed a brand of razor-sharp, brutally honest standup that took no prisoners—and took him to the most famous stages of Atlanta and LA before he graduated high school. Along the way, he broke the hearts of MILFs everywhere, finally hit puberty at the ripe age of twenty-two, never met a grudge he wouldn’t keep—and never, ever backed down.

Full of Matt at his most unfiltered best opening up about his life for the very first time, this book will give Matt’s millions of fans everything they want and more—and might even get his insecure enemies to change their minds. Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me is one part memoir, one part comedy special, one part crazy first date. Just you and Matt between the covers. What could be better?

I'm surprised, I have never picked an autobiography written by anyone in their 20s or 30s . I only just discovered Matt Rife while going through a really hard time listening to this young man made me laugh when all I wanted to do was scream .
Turns out this young guy has alot of a story to Tell. And does it very well .
It's funny . uplifting and at times I had a good Cry . I'm not into the American Roasting thing . But this Guy does it well , some of it I like some I don't and I skip those bits in his shows . he has been through alot . and has risen above it all and has from I pick up a humble unapologetic mannerly guy who just wants to make people Happy . despite people trying to cancel him . well done to him. enjoyed this book very much 👌

Surprised how good this biography is from a young guy..enjoyed it very much

I recently discovered Matt Rife's comedy (yeah I know...I usually live under giant boulders and miss the beginnings of phenomenon). I think that is the perfect word to describe Matt Rife...a phenomenon. So, after watching his stuff online and really loving his comedy, I found his audiobook,

The fact that Matt himself narrates it is a bonus, it feels as though he is talking directly to each listener individually. From the very start, Matt takes you on a journey through his life, sharing very personal pain, failures and victories. He guides the listener from his desire to become a comedian to taking the world by storm.

He speaks humbly about his success and pays tribute to his friends and family who have supported him throughout his life; especially the now famous "Papaw Steve".

There are laughs, amazement, and sadness along the way, but Matt tells his story with the same energy that he has when he is on stage. I hope that in the future, Matt will write and record a sequel.

"The best advice I ever got was to just be myself. It sounds simple, but it's the hardest thing to do, especially in this business." 🖤

This book is more than just a comedian's memoir; it's a candid and surprisingly heartwarming journey through the life of a rising star. While many, like myself, initially discovered Matt Rife through his viral TikTok clips, this book offers a deeper understanding of the man behind the jokes. Listening to Matt narrate his own story adds an extra layer of authenticity, making the experience feel like a conversation with a friend. He doesn't shy away from the less glamorous aspects of his past, offering genuine insights into his struggles and the relentless hard work that fueled his ascent.

I love how he talks about his relationship with his grandfather and buying his mum a house. These anecdotes are woven throughout the narrative, providing touching moments of warmth and humor that perfectly balance the other tales of his comedy career. It's clear that family plays a significant role in Matt's life, and these stories add a genuine emotional core to the book. Matt's authenticity shines through in every page, making his story a truly enjoyable and surprisingly moving read.

Whether you're a long-time fan or just curious about the man behind the viral sensation, this book is definitely worth a listen.

Very interesting to hear about Matt’s early years and personal life and hear how much he’s overcome and how he never gave up. Brilliant from start to finish.

Excellent read!

The book was honest and interesting, I actually read it whilst in Ohio on holiday where Matt originated. Loved him talking about his Grandfather and his genuine affection for him I understand that. I like that he says it has it is and doesn’t layer it with political correctness.

As Good as I thought it would be.

OMG, I couldn’t recommend this book enough. I don’t normally leave reviews and I’m very new to the whole reading a book or even listening a book scene. I have followed Matt on various platforms for only a short time but I felt like I know him. I then bought this audio book and honesty Ive listened to this audiobook about 3 or 4 times. If you want to listen to a funny but very humble and interesting person then this is the book for you. Plus, the story is read by the one and only, Matt Rife. How better to get the real perspective than listening to him and his way of telling his story. This book to me was such an emotional rollercoaster, I laughed and cried but most of all it makes me understand how you really do have to work for something you really want.
Enjoy it!!

Been a big fan of Matt’s work for about 18 months and was excited to hear this book was being released - it did not disappoint!

Matt’s narration is great and it was fascinating to hear what the journey has been like during his rise to fame over the past few years. He also gives a frank and honest insight into the realities/pressures that social media can bring, particularly with online trolls and cancel culture.

I work as a full time magician but while a different art form, there were so many challenges/hurdles discussed that resonated deeply as a fellow performer.

Above all, I’ve been truly inspired by Matt’s hard work ethic and cannot wait to see where his journey goes next! Keep up the great work Matt and thanks for sharing your comedic gift with the world 😊

Fantastic listen and beautifully articulated!

I honestly didn’t know what to expect bc I had the book on pre-order from July on Amazon, and then it wasn’t going to be delivered until 27th December..I have been so ADHD I don’t think my hyper activeness would have allowed me to sit quietly and read, so on a whim I thought maybe I’ll just try the audible route and see if I can get through the book that way..well I’m so happy I did! It was so nice hearing Matt’s voice, it really set the tone of every chapter, and it was more relatable hearing the up and down’s, the happy and sad times coming from his feelings and reactions. Why have I never thought about audio until now, I’m also dyslexic so another reason to do audio! Now I have this, I am going to play it all over again in the car. I wouldn’t have even thought about this if I’d had the book, I just got impatient and wanted to know more about Matt’s beginning’s as I only by chance saw a clip on fb of him at the start of this year. It’s a good way to listen to a book on the go!

Cried laughed and cried again
