Brilliant once again
I have read the book but due to cancer in the lungs I have to go hospital a lot I have cannulas in both hands depending on what drugs I am to be given. I get really fed up with them coming and keep checking. So I purchased the audible version of this book because I was desperate to read. Well I wish I hadn’t I started to listen to it after a couple of minutes I turned it off and went back to reading the book, while they kept messing about with the cannulas I just put my kindle to one side and used the kindle app I have on my phone thought it might be easier. I don’t think I will be purchasing any more audible books well not until I am almost blind anyhow. That’s if I live that long. The voice grated on my nerves, and I felt he could not get the truth emotionally content of the fear factors. I am sorry but it just felt I was back at school and the teacher was telling us stories. I wasn’t interested them. So it’s no wonder I am not interested now. Seriously just lacked the fear factor. Also when the wolf told him why he was doing it and what had happened to his friends it just didn’t carry the emotions that reading it yourself did. Not for me I am afraid 5 stars for the book itself

Very Good
The extremely rare case of the personal tragedy of an exceptional author who wrote this novel around the death of his partner and included and added dark, meta horror to the usual serial killer setting.
How the ending and especially the motivation of the antagonist in his monologue are described is how reality functions, how humankind rolls, what is several times happening right at this moment. (view spoiler) not to forget the, for the work irrelevant, secret prisons, NSA surveillance stuff, Orwellian tendencies, etc. There is money to make, cash is king, and it´s a buyer´s market. So better give black Friday special offers, why not (view spoiler)
What is even more disturbing is that, with such a setting, nobody is safe anymore. Before, it were certain main target audiences that got the most attention and deadly love by serial killers, but by imagining such a scenario, everyone could be a coincidental kill. Hope that the voices don´t have too specific wishes.
And that´s just the industrial world, imagine what must go in in the Southern hemisphere or in the areas of Europe and North America that are under control by organized crime. If one single person with special skills, talent, and motivation could do it, what could the criminal franchise equivalent of a megacorporation conglomerate do, let´s say a cooperation of Asian, Russian, and European crime syndicates that don´t fight, but work together and help each other?

The 'he said', 'she said' fest
It's when something small and repetitive gets to you that it spoils the entire read or listen, as in this case. Do you find that? I got to the point where I was continually waiting for the next 'Hunter said' or 'Garcia intimated' or the multifarious ways of unnecessarily interjecting 'he/she said' in between sentences when characters are speaking to each other. When two people are having a conversation, it is barely necessary to indicate who is saying what, certainly not in every retort. Even with three people, constant repetition is not necessary. Call me finickity, but it managed to spoil what was a barely plausible and fairly unnuanced storyline, even though I have to say I did enjoy and commend the author for large sections of his fast moving plot and the manner in which he brought some of the characters to life. I have to say the James Bond villain finale and the OK Corral moments stretched my credibility and the author deserves credit for providing a detailed and reasoned backdrop which offers an acceptable explanation for the manner in which the plot is brought to a conclusion.
What about the CCTV images of the policeman when he appears in the bar? Did he manage to keep his face hidden then and/or steal the footage? I don't recall this being covered or explained away.
Clichés aside; the damaged female; traumatised kids whose alcoholic/drug addicted parents deserted them etc., I was intrigued as to whether the author genuinely felt a cause for the forgotten/ignored veterans of military service. There seemed to me to be a subliminal message that rightly said 'look after these individuals when the fighting is over.'
After all this, would it be hypocritical of me to say I quite enjoyed the listen and the quality of the narration? Well, I did, but I just don't want the author to say to himself as he puts pen to paper, 'I'd better put down who said that so the reader won't be confused.' Don't. It underestimates the intelligence of the readers who, from my experience, are a pretty clued-in bunch.
