About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Read by award-winning narrator Jeff Harding.
**NOW A MAJOR PRIME TV SERIES STARRING ALAN RITCHSON**
Jack Reacher walks alone.
No job, no ID, no last known address. But he never turns down a plea for help. Now a woman tracks him down. A woman serving at the very heart of US power. A woman who needs Reacher's assistance in her new job.
Her job?
Protecting the Vice-President of the United States.
Her problem?
Someone wants the VP dead.
Although the Jack Reacher novels can be listened to in any order, Without Fail is the 6th in the series.
'Lee Child's protagonist, Jack Reacher, is a hero in the Dirty Harry style, a man who lives by his own principles . . . Produces a surprising twist when it's least expected.' Sunday Telegraph
‘Jeff Harding’s [...] narration captures Reacher’s character perfectly [...] you have to savour every minute.’ The Sunday Times

nearly as good as a read
The only thing that spoiled my enjoyment was the narrators attempt at the various accents

Another Reacher...
I do like the Jack Reacher series although I can't help thinking it is the same ol' formula for each book and feels less original each time. Still won't stop me getting the next one. Wasn't a huge fan of the ending of this one but it's not truly awful either, if you like the series, you'll like this. I really like Jeff Harding as a narrator, I think he suits the books well. My only criticism would be that the female characters all sound the same to me. Overall a pretty solid listen though :-).

2nd best one (so far)
I am continuing to work through the Reacher books in order, a bit late to the party I know, and this us definitely another strong one. From book 3 onwards the mystery element has increased and it adds significantly to the page turning element, or the audio equivalent. I still think The Visitor is my favourite so far but this is no.2. I do miss the proper chapters though, I assume the book just doesn't have any but chapters are helpful when listening on a commute. This book has minimal adult content and is probably safe for 12+, although thematically probably reads a bit older.

Solid Reacher story. Neagleys contribution balanced.
Narration is very good.
Storyline plausible and totally implausible at the same time which is fun.
This is my 2nd or 3rd time reading/listening and its still an enjoyable book. Still forget alot of the details and various outcomes. Confusion normally stems from other books. I.e. does 'X' happen in this book or another one.

What it says on the tin
If you were expecting a typically fast paced, strong man, Reacher novel with well drawn characters, plenty of action sequences and right eventually winning over wrong, this is for you. The narrator really brings the story to life with his customary professional performance and it becomes compulsive listening. Not as a spoiler, but my one storyline disappointment was the failure earlier in the plot to investigate the intended victim's past. I understand why not, but it does tax reality.
Overall, I enjoyed it and it's well worth a credit.
