What happens when a player gets played?

Actor Dylan Frasier is known as one of the biggest playboys in Hollywood, infamous for seducing men and women alike. He’s also half in love with his two best friends. Unfortunately, Jason and Ben are madly in love with each other, leaving Dylan the odd man out. When Ben suggests an extended Christmas vacation at a resort modeled after his favorite 80s TV show, Dylan reluctantly agrees. Sure, his heart breaks a bit every time he sees them together, but it’s a vacation in the Bahamas. How bad can it be?

At first, the resort seems like any other. Dylan plans to work on his tan, get laid, and hunt for Hollywood’s most in-demand director – not necessarily in that order. Then he meets Connor, a tennis instructor still hurting from a bad breakup. Connor knows Dylan’s reputation and refuses to be seduced. Dylan sees Connor as just another conquest, but this tropical island isn’t as mundane as it appears. It has its own kind of magic, and it’s about to make things interesting.

I am a huge fan of the playboy meets the "one" for him trope, but this book delivered so much more than that in the relationship between Dylan and Connor. It starts with Dylan trying to play his usual, successful seduction games, but Connor has been burned before and is totally on to him and not interested. Dylan keeps trying, however, and slowly but surely these two develop a friendship that turns into so much more. Dylan's demons are fully explored and dealt with in a way that is totally believable and allows for a much more meaningful relationship with Connor and honest friendship with Ben and Jason than one could have ever expected from the Dylan we met at the beginning of the book. Nick J. Russo does a superb job of voicing all the characters, but especially Dylan through his change from playboy to a man capable of deep friendship and love.

Great character growth

Winter Oranges was a revelation, a lovely seasonal romance with a delicious hint of paranormal.
One of the characters from that book, Dylan, searches for redemption and his HEA during a Christmas trip to an island with his two best friends.
The issue I had with this was that Dylan was a dumpster fire of a man, totally unlikeable, promiscuous, pill-popping, egotistical, and arrogant, I didn't care for his character at all, therefore, I couldn't be bothered whether he was redeemed and fell in love. The whole 'dream sequence of another life lived where one makes all the mistakes' is an age-old trope that's been done to death. Sometimes stand alones should be left as they are. Winter Oranges is a gem, Winter Dreams isn't.
