Summary
Coach Asa Dawson has fallen wildly in love only twice in his life.
First with football.
Then with Scott Callaway.

This can be read as a standalone but in order to really fall in love with Asa and his story it is best to read the series in order. Once again this book had great world building and a great group of side characters. It's a very supportive team and unlike other sports books where there is lots of discrimination, there is none ig that here.
I have been waiting for Asa's story and it did not disappoint. This book was very easy to read. Despite it being a little lengthy, I couldn't put it down. This story was sweet and at times emotional. There is no relationship angst but a bit of third party drama. This was low heat and I would have liked a bit more but I absolutely loved this story. I personally felt there was alot of focus on plays/sports and would have preferred more focus on the characters. That way it also could have shortened the book a bit. Not letting that affect my rating as that is just me not being a sports fan. Despite the length, it didn't feel draggy at all. I loved that although the 2 MCs had a previous relationship, this was still a slow burn and Scott had to really work for Asa's forgiveness. These 2 men were perfect for each other and has wonderful chemistry. Im looking forward to the next book.
The narrator did a great job with this performance. He has a pleasant reading voice and kept a good pace. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully. He gave all the characters, not just the 2 MCs, distinct voices that suited them well and made it easy to follow the story. It was a great listening experience and the narrator really brought the story to life.

Sassy and Emotional Second Chance Romance x
A really sweet second chance love story. I knew I'd love Asa's story, he and Scott were great characters, and worked so well together. Their story was full of warmth, humour and understanding, there is some angst, but this was necessary for the story to work. Their character development is incredibly well done, both guys grow in personality and depth, and the motivations that propel them throughout the story are clear. It also was lovely to come across the 'family' again, it was great to find out that Tristan and Wade haven't changed in the slightest, Sebastian and Beau are still madly in love, and the remainder of the crew are flourishing. A heartwarming and emotional story, captured beautifully by Darcy Starks. I'm totally loving the audiobooks if this series.

Winning the Season is a big win for me.
Winning the Season is the fourth book in the Miami Piranhas series, it can be read as a standalone.
A professional football MM Romance that is Coach Asa’s love story?! Say less!!! I loved everything about the premise of this book! It was funny, sweet, had a great storyline and the spice was spicing!!
It was the perfect listen for a cold winter night, it will definitely raise the temperature more! Darcy Stark embodies Asa and Scott! His performances had me swooning, cheering, and very hot under the collar!
I felt Asa’s emotions at the beginning bleeding through Darcy Stark’s voice and in return I felt so angry on his behalf.
Scott and Asa are both really great characters who are easily likeable, Asa’s only negative quality is him being a grinch 😂. It was nice listening to this audiobook at Christmas time. I think it was over a year ago I read it for the first time; I never reviewed it and didn’t remember the details going into this book.
When Scott said to Asa “it’s a privilege to know you” - gosh my heart, this was so beautiful. Their chemistry was electric; I could definitely feel it and it had me almost spellbound. Their love felt mature but also fun. Deep and emotional but also lighthearted and tender. Their deep friendship was at the core of their relationship and it was so lovely to see that being so key in a couple.
It was so nice listening to Scott and Micah’s relationship beginning to blossom when I already know how special it becomes.
This book contains sensitive content such as discussion of a heart attack and homophobia.

Be still my heart!
Story: Oh. My. Goodness!
Beth Bolden has truly outdone herself with this book! It's dripping with feels from page one and I could not be more impressed how all the emotions are reflected on page! True master skills right there!
Asa and Scott were brilliant together! By far the best story of the series.
I was beyond excited when I learned Coach would be getting his own story and the book delivered 100%!
Narration: Perfect match of voices to characters and spot on acting!

I just loved Asa and Scott!
There is a lengthy prologue at the beginning, but this gives us some really important back story as to how Asa has fell in love with Scott and really sets us up for where the story then begins - Chapter 1 brings us back 7 years later, when Scott is reappearing into Asa’s life (after walking away from him and choosing football and his career over coming out and being potentially happy).
I have to say - I love how Beth Bolden interweaves their knowledge of sport to create a good solid plot which is not solely the romance alone. The romance is still a good part of the story, but it holds equal weight to the rest of the story, rather than being the sole focus. However the epilogue which is more romance focussed was just the absolute sweetest.
Darcy Stark is a fairly new narrator to me, but I have to say they did a stellar job of this. The prologue was a little confusing to listen to, I did need to go back a couple of times to check I understood, but once we got onto the main story I flew through it - such a great story and the narration from chapter 1 was much easier to follow. Their characterisation of both Asa (and his grumpy / stubborn behaviour) and Scott’s lighter more sunshine character was brilliant - they really brought both characters to life for me.

This book might be my new favourite in the series!
That was probably quite a given, since it’s a second-chance trope, which is my favourite.
Asa, or Coach Dawson, is everything I expected him to be: a blustering exterior hiding a soft heart. I loved his and Scott’s banter, and especially at the beginning, when he was still reeling from everyone fussing over him after his health scare and from Scott being called to help, he was so funny all ruffled-feather and angry!
Darcy Stark did a great job with the Southern accents, which I loved!

good story
An enjoyable book. Asa is an incorrigible grump and it was great to see him get his HEA. I liked it even though it's second chance and that's not usually my thing, but the quality of the writing and the narration was good enough I could ignore that. Bo and Sebastian were necessarily a large part of it, Bo being Asa's son, and I was left curious and wanting to read their story. Although it was longer than it needed to be in parts, Winning the Season was a great story with some festive elements. Recommended.

I loved it so much!
I've loved every audiobook in this series but after reading Playing by the Rules, I couldn't wait to listen to Winning the Season. I was fortunate enough to receive a free copy from the author but I would have gladly purchased a copy if that hadn't happened.
I thought this book was great. Asa is a grump who doesn't really get into the holiday spirit and he still harbors bad feelings about the way things ended with Scott. He's not really thrilled when he finds out that his son has contacted Scott to help with the Piranhas while he recovers from a little health issue.
This book was everything I could have wished for. Darcy Stark once again knocked it out of the park and now I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series (hoping that it comes to audio).

An incredible, football-y love story
I'm not a sports person, but Beth Bolden has made me fall in love with the entire Piranhas team. I've been wondering if Coach (Asa) would get a story of his own, and now that I've listened to it I can say that it exceeded even my highest expectations! I wholeheartedly adored Scott and Asa, I'm thrilled that their second chance at love turned out the way it did, and Darcy Stack did an amazing job narrating their journey.
I could list all the things that made this story fantastic, but for me it all started with the prologue. I absolutely love how much of Scott and Asa's initial friendship I got to see here--both the camaraderie and also how their close bond slowly progressed into something more. I got swept away by the excitement and uncertainty of new love, and even though I knew it would end with their separation somehow, it didn't stop me from falling head over heels for the two of them together. It was heartbreaking to see them walk away from each other initially, but I understood the pressures they were under and why they felt like they had no other choice.
Because I knew that they'd never really stopped loving each other, it felt natural for Scott and Asa to slot right back into place when they reconnected several years later--even if Asa did try to fight it initially. I had so much fun watching them trade snarky little comments, dance around their past feelings for each other, and get passionate about coaching the team together. I'm not even a football person and I couldn't help but be excited by the way Asa and Scott strategized about plays and worked with their players to build an even stronger team. I got more engaged in the football aspects of this story than I ever have before, and seeing the way Scott and Asa treated their players made me have so much respect for them as people.
As for the romance element of the story, I couldn't have been more captivated by the beautiful love Scott and Asa shared. It brought me such joy to watch as they rekindled the sparks between them, and I genuinely enjoyed experiencing the ups and downs of their journey. Telling Beau about their relationship was probably the thorniest part of the whole story, and even then I knew they'd all end up okay in the end. The rest was just a lovely balance of swoony and steamy, with a splash of Christmas cheeriness to give the whole thing a happy, uplifting ending.

It's finally Asa's turn! Brilliant narration
So happy to finally have Coach's story! Asa has been in the background for the beginning, pushing his players and coaching team to be better and maybe even helping some couples be together. Now he gets the happy ending he deserves after more than a few years of waiting.
He and Scott were best friends for years before Asa realised he maybe liked Scott more than as just friends. Scott did not make the best choice for them then, taking off to Washington, and so it's now at the point where we left off in book three and Asa needs to be taking it bit easy, maybe even, shock horror, work less! That's where Scott comes in, though that's definitely against Asa's wishes to start with. It's fun reading him trying to actively dislike Scott but it's also clear how much he's missed him. There is plenty of strong emotions going around for both men and they get used to being around each other again, and then there are tentative steps forward to the future they desperately want together. Fear, guilt and sadness mar the last year they were together and the several spent apart but now there is the chance for everything they wanted from life - football, family and each other. Asa's dilemma comes in the form of telling his son, Beau. Waiting too long or having him find out from someone else could cause chaos and of course, it never goes how we want.
There is some drama on the field as the Piranhas attempt to keep their excellent and unexpected season going, and then the festive season brings out the secret Santa gifts, one being especially epic for Asa. The team has highs and lows but the constant of Asa being an exceptional coach has them all pushing to be better and Scott is an even more positive impact on that, showing just how great they can be together, on and off the field.
Coach's story makes my heart so happy! I love having him and Scott get their much deserved HEA, after he's been seeing everyone else on the team get theirs. I'm really looking forward to the last book of the series but also sad that it will be coming to an end when I've enjoyed it so much from the start.

Darcy Stark has again brought life to the brilliant characters that Beth Bolden has written. Having looked forward to this one for so long, it makes me happy to hear Asa's voice experiencing the happiness that he deserves. There's a lot of emotion to narrate and Darcy does an amazing job, especially keeping track of all of the character voices with so many added to the growing group.
