About this listen

'Please help me,' he said in a small voice. 'Will you help me?'

Six-year-old Ralph has only been in the care system for three days and has already been rejected by three different foster carers. After hitting a teacher at his school and causing mayhem since he arrived four months ago, staff are unable to get a hold of his mum and her partner.

Social Services are called and when Ralph turns up at Maggie's house, she knows immediately it's going to be a challenge. Within a couple of hours, Ralph has trashed Maggie's house and spit on her face. After a nightmare first day though, Maggie notices that Ralph is limping and a hospital check reveals broken limbs and several injuries that are months and years old. Can Maggie help this troubled little boy who has been rejected by everyone in his life find his forever home?

From Britain's most-loved foster carer, a new powerful true story of abuse, family and hope.

I love every book I read by this author and this one was no acception. Ralph's story was so sad and it was terrible what he went through, Maggie however was very supportive to him and did not give up which was what he needed. I am glad he found his forever home and think he got the best case sinario for sure.

Another good offering by this author.

Really really enjoyed listening to this title. It was heartbreaking and I just needed to know how it worked out for him in the end and listened in one sitting. My only fault is that the audiobook is just 3 hours long but I enjoyed and was engaged all the way thru. Can definetely recommend and I award this title 5 stars. Narrator was brilliant and I could listen to her all day.

A very heartbreaking account of one poor boy.

This was pre ordered, released today, and I've just finished ! Well worth the wait. I've listened to all of Maggie 's memoirs now and this one, somehow, topped them all. This beautiful beautiful boy ....... evil 'parents' .... so much vulnerability and fear. Rescued by the social services and Maggie's care and impeccable fostering. She truly 'fosters' the spirit of each and every child that she looks after and thank heavens she chose this career. I was also humbled to hear how she is also capable of - at rare times - struggling, because she is human. However, her strategies for pushing on are to introspect, and compare worse situations. I love her.
So very glad that you rescued this beautiful child, and set him up for a hopeful, loving future. Xxx

Well worth the wait. Magnificent ❤️

Very real and incredibly raw. I loved this book and listening to the incredible talent and patience of the foster carer (I too am a single foster carer)

Fantastic book!

Maggie Heartly is an amazing writer, and an amazing foster carer. None of her books are boring, and it's a real eye opener as to the suffering children face and the time, skill, and compassion of people who make it thier life's work to care for and protect them. this book in particular was interesting because the child had Autism, I myself was diagnosed when I was 19, and after the second chapter, I'd already figured out that Ralph was Autistic, he is very much like my nephews who also have autism and ADHD, her way of dealing with difficult stutations goes to show just how amazing she is. I don't know of any other adult that could stay calm and not loose control, when faced with some of the things Maggie has had to deal with. A truly wonderful book, and would deffinatly recommend all of her other books too, some are very distressing to listen too, but it also gives people the chance to spot problems with children and report it to rhe authorities. when in doubt, always voice your concerns.
thank you Maggie, for another fantastic book, I hope there are many more to come.

My favorite books

l like how calm. and sensitive, the care was has a foster parent myself. I find it really hard as she said. Herself not to raise my voice and to be very calm. And she was of every calm, which is very hard to do. Sensitive I can be. I'm very loving but raising my voice is very hard not to as I am a loud person anyway. Has looking after a child in the same position as the little boy. It is a very hard and exhausting process, but.
It is also very rewarding and a lot of hard work, but. It is achievable in the end.

Waited ages for this but I’m disappointed to be honest. Far too much emphasis on pointless details, it’s one of those books that you won’t remember reading in the future. It was just a bit “Meh” felt as though it was rushed.

Very dull.
