Summary
There's never been any question in Sean Tucker's mind that he'd do whatever it took to make it to the major leagues and be one of the best pitchers of his time. The day he acknowledged to himself that he was gay was also the day he vowed to stay in the closet in order to chase his dreams. The problem is, he never counted on Mason Atley.
Sean showed rookie short stop Mason Atley the ropes, both on the field and off. The two forged a friendship, which continued as both of them moved through the ranks of the farm system and into the majors. Unfortunately, there's always been one secret Mason never felt he could share with Sean - until now.
For seven years, Sean lived with the fact that he loved a man who would never reciprocate. When Mason admits that he's always known he was bisexual but has never allowed himself to pursue a relationship with a man, will Sean be able to put aside his reservations about starting a relationship with the friend he'd always assumed was straight? And, more importantly, will they be able to find a way to stay together when their careers keep them apart more than they can be together?

as good as the ebook
The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.
The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.
PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings:
5* - very very good
it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A
3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

An okay baseball romance
Major League Baseball players, Sean and Mason are best friends. Sean has never admitted he is gay or that he had a crush on Mason. With the end of his marriage, Mason has some feelings of his own to grapple with. I didn’t mind this but I didn’t love it. I quite liked the two main characters, but I didn’t quite connect with them. I felt like the author bundled in a bunch of tropes but didn’t give them depth, mostly low angst. I had a lot of trouble with misogyny towards the ex-wife and other women in the book - strange from a female author but not unheard of. 🎧 I liked Christopher Rain’s timbre and expression, he suited the characters. He spoke more slowly than I prefer, so I increased the playback speed a little and that was perfect.

I don't know...
What disappointed you about Wild Pitch?
The narrator is a favorite of the author's. This book has decided for me that I won't be listening to anymore of his audiobooks. He speaks like a robot, slow and monotonous. In this day, we can pick narrators that "add" the inflections. Not this one. I feel like he talks to us like we are little kids.
Would you ever listen to anything by Sloan Johnson again?
Not anymore. :(
Any additional comments?
Read the book on your own but be prepared for contradictions from page one. Example - "We would do anything for the bride. Mason is so in love with her." to "He is a complete mess and she is a complete b*tch"
