About this listen

Why Mummy Drinks is the brilliant novel from Gill Sims, the author of the online sensation Peter and Jane.

It is Mummy's 39th birthday. She is staring down the barrel of a future of people asking if she wants to come to their advanced yoga classes and polite book clubs where everyone claims to be tiddly after a glass of Pinot Grigio and says things like 'oooh gosh, are you having another glass?'

But Mummy does not want to go quietly into that good night of women with sensible haircuts who 'live for their children' and stand in the playground trying to trump each other with their offsprings' extracurricular activities and achievements and boasting about their latest holidays.

Instead, she clutches a large glass of wine, muttering 'FML' over and over again. Until she remembers the gem of an idea she's had....

This is an absolutely brilliantly hilarious tale of life as a mother. I love the tone Gabrielle brings to the story and found myself laughing out loud on many occasions! I just with the ‘Why Mummy Drinks’ app was real (and yes I have searched it!!). I cannot wait to read/listen to Gill Sims next book and will be sharing this with all my mummy friends!

Nice, easy listening. Few laugh out loud moments where I identified with the story and overall a nice listen. Found the narrator to be not quite right at the start, just not how I imagined the main character to sound but got used to it. Will most likely listen to the others in the series.

pretty good, easy listening

Hilarious and very close to the truth. Had me laughing out loud! Hoping it gets made into a film soon.

Loved it!

The book started off well enough, and was quite humorous, but as the bad language increased as the story continued, the humour seemed to cheapen.I didn’t finish the book, because as I became more and more aware of the unnecessary language,I felt cheated. It seemed the seemed the author was looking for an easy laugh, which was a shame as the story had such a promising beginning.

Disappointing

Laughed so much. It really is like that when you have children with someone. And as they grow up it's different but similar.

Like my life
