Summary

So you think you're a Buddhist? Think again. Tibetan Buddhist master Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse, one of the most creative and innovative lamas teaching today, throws down the gauntlet to the Buddhist world, challenging common misconceptions, stereotypes, and fantasies. With wit and irony, Khysentse urges listeners to move beyond the superficial trappings of Buddhism - beyond the romance with beads, incense, or exotic robes - straight to the heart of what the Buddha taught.

Understanding Buddhism for everyone

I have read over twenty book about Buddhism and its practices by the most venerable of authors, but this book is outstanding.

For the beginner it is easy to understand what is Buddhism, but what it means to or rather what it does not mean. It explains the for noble truths with an ease that can put you on your way towards the so called 21 steps to eliminate the ignorance from our minds.

Enjoy freeing your mind from the shackles of ignorance

Skilful means to understand Buddhism

This book offers a solid dose of reality to slice through spiritual bypassing and performative, superficial adherence to the profound teachings of the Buddha.

Sharp and deep.

This audiobook presents the challenging teachings of Buddhism in a frank, informal way which is both authentically traditional and disarmingly street-wise. There’s a lot of humour, clarity and very lightly worn scholarly authority here. It’s great.

An essential teaching for anyone interested in understanding Buddhism

Whatever your connection is with the teachings of the Buddha - this book will challenge you to reflect and hopefully let go of the preconceptions and misunderstanding which are obstacles to your progress on the path.
A wonderful teacher who is able to playfully and compassionately pull the rug from beneath your feet . His online teachings on this subject are well worth exploring.

a good book for Buddhist and non Buddhist alike

really gets to the heart of the view of what buddhism is about. Narrators voice makes my foot itch a bit bit that's mainly due to me being a grumpy old sod.

Great book, that really makes you think.

I really enjoyed this book. It makes really good points and presents truths that really hit home. As well as telling the Buddha’s story it goes into the teachings in great detail and has inspired me to start meditation again after a long pause.
