Professor Michael D. C. Drout
About this listen
The study of rhetoric not only leads to a greater understanding of how personages such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Winston Churchill elevated the power of speech to majestic heights, but also to a stronger proficiency in using rhetoric in anyone's day-to-day life.
Professor Drout examines the types of rhetoric and their effects, the structure of effective arguments, and how subtleties of language can be employed to engage in more successful rhetoric. Drout also ponders the role of rhetoric in our world and the age-old question of whether it is just a tool for convincing people of things that aren't true, or whether it is indeed a force for good that will ultimately lead to truth.

I downloaded this book when I wanted to up my game and become more adept at speaking to larger audiences of senior managers. In retrospect I should probably have been looking in the 'management' or 'leadership' section, but I am glad that this was my first download on communication. These lectures are unlike anything I have found in those topic sections, nothing really compares. This series of lectures is completely engaging, there was not one moment where I got bored, tuned out or turned off. I have listened to this series twice more since and each time I find myself completely enthralled. What did you like best about this story?
I am not going to give it away, you can listen for yourself, but you will find that Michael is an amazing story teller. He manages to convey passion for he subjects he lectures in, and he maintains that passion from start to finish. If it were a fiction novel it would be a real page turner one of those books that keeps you guessing, the fact it is of an educational nature makes it a treasure!Have you listened to any of the narrator’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Michaels style is brilliant, I have listened to the whole the 'A Way With Words' series and my favourite is part three 'Grammar'.Completely Engaging

Highly recommended, but the speed means that you'll need to follow up with a little reading online or hard copy to fix the ideas.
Drout has a strong US accent, but his love for the English language and Anglo Saxon makes his lectures delightful listening. Feed your brain!
