According to historical sources, the origin of the Vaishya caste is north India, especially the surrounding region of Ayodhya. Over time, the Vaishya families of 714 gotras travelled towards Dakshinapatha and settled down at Penugonda (now west Godavari district region) in Andhra Pradesh. Among the kings who ruled the Chalukya empire of Tyre, there are many who are named Kubja Vishnuvardhana, Vishnuvardhana and Kali Vishnuvardhana on the fourth. These include A.D. Vimaladita, who ruled for seven years from 1015 to 1022
