About this listen

'At high speed everything becomes more difficult and more beautiful. When you're racing at 180mph, the semi-bends become bends, the little holes become big holes, everything becomes extreme and bigger. And then it becomes beautiful.'

Valentino Rossi is an icon: the most successful and most loved motorcycle racer of all time, he has transcended MotoGP to become a symbol of courage, risk and daring. To race for 23 years at the very highest level of the world's most dangerous sport is unprecedented. But then, there has never been a motorcycle racer like Valentino Rossi. He is a modern-day gladiator, a man who still risks his life every time he throws a leg over a motorcycle.

Yet for all his two-wheel talents, it is Rossi's endearing character that has seen him transcend the sport. His popularity is phenomenal. For Rossi, every race is a home race. He turns MotoGP grandstands across the world a sea of yellow - his traditional lucky colour.

In more than two decades of Grand Prix racing, Rossi has seen it all. The deaths of rivals and friends, the glory of his unprecedented success, serious injuries, fabulous wealth, the greatest battles ever seen on two wheels, the infamous on- and off-track clashes with his fiercest rivals....

Using exclusive new interviews with those who have been part of Rossi's story from start to finish, critically acclaimed and best-selling motorsport author Stuart Barker has produced the most in-depth book ever written about the Italian superstar - a tale of speed, love and loss, told in full for the very first time, in all its adrenalin-charged, high-octane glory.

Of its type It’s a good book. It is well read except for the shocking pronunciation of some of the key players. I’m sure with some simple editorial guidance this could have been easily sorted. It’s unlikely to be a book for a casual listener and so the people who download are going to be very aware of the correct names. It’s not George Lorenzo for instance!

pronounciation

Interesting enough but bad pronunciation of some names, particularly Viñales, left me feeling that more research could have been done by the narrator. Either that or they could have found a narrator with an interest in the subject.

More a career review than a biography

Covers many aspects of Rossi’s life and some of his motivations. Well worth the read.

Really reinforced my view of Vale been the goat.

Good I shall lessen to it a gene. Narrated well good to hear that Rossi will by see my racing something deferent.

the goat

A good insight to the man who is. Although I think maybe the narration should of been better researched, many mistakes in pronounces of names. Also not that different to the other books on Valentino. But a good listen none the less.

A good insight to the man.

Enjoyed and found it interesting on-site to vale life . Enjoyed every minute of this autobiography. Only criticism was that the classes of bikes became a bit repetitive and once said didn’t really have to wack CC on time he mentioned what Rossi had won . Other wise excellent

Rossi....GOAT Fact

Much better than Rossi's earlier (too early) autobiography. As a bike fan exactly same age as Vale I started on bikes at 16 as he was starting on the world stage- is great to have someone like Rossi to benchmark my life against :I

As a massive bike and Rossi fan I can't say if its a good book for non-fans but I highly rate this, didn't put it down.

The narrator butchered the names throughout, even getting Vale wrong, tried not to let it annoy me but definitely did. Maybe a petty issue for most, overall a great racer bio.

Best is What a Do by Whitham. Also John McGuinness' bio.

Enjoy

The bio Rossi deserves
