About this listen
Part memoir, part practical guide to the vagina, this indispensable book sifts through myths and misinformation with the aim of empowering women with vital knowledge about their own bodies.
From earliest childhood, girls are misled about their bodies, encouraged to describe their genitalia with cute names rather than anatomically correct terms. Girls grow up feeling ashamed about their periods, about the appearance of their vulvas, about their own desires.
They grow up without a full and honest sex education, and this lack of knowledge has serious consequences: the number of women attending cervical screening appointments in the UK is at a 20-year low.
Vagina provides girls and women with information they need about their own bodies. It confronts taboos such as abortion, miscarriage, infertility and masturbation. It tackles vital social issues like period poverty, female genital mutilation and the rights of transgender women.
We need to talk about women's sexual and reproductive health, about our experiences of sex and pregnancy and pain and pleasure. Vagina: A Re-Education will help us do just that.

"Shocking, brilliant, important. A fine addition to the feminist canon." (Emma Jane Unsworth)
"Absolutely incredible. It's educational and informative while also managing to be a fierce rallying cry for women." (Louise O'Neill)

Highly informative and enjoyable
A well rounded and thought provoking discussion, that I agree definitely needs more awareness and educating in society.

A must for everyone.
I liked the way my mind has been enlightened, and the thoughts that I have had and how they will manifest as actions.

Got this to learn about vaginas (vulvas), but instead received a long rant
If you want to learn about vulvas and womanhood please look elsewhere. I understand the political need for books like this, but it does not excuse the excessive use of anecdotes and fruitless rhetorical demands of society. If you’re a woman with an oppressed complex, or believe women or the queer community cannot go wrong, then this book will be 100% for you.
This book does not go deep into the history of understanding of the vulva, nor the psychological or sociological implications of current views and knowledge. There is some education on the biology but there could have been twice that much. It tries to touch on all and ends up leaving me with the sense that I have not learnt much or have been “re-educated” at all. This book seems to have been written as a personal challenge and for the authors ego and admiration in their evidently echochamber-like circle of friends. If you want genuine education on the vulva there must certainly be better, and ultimately more feminist, books out there.
