Summary

He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widow, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly... even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time. And the last thing they ever expected was each other.

But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop. … she should have chosen the strip club.

“Babe, I’ve handpicked everythin’ and everyone in here. I know what I want and I get what I want,” he breathed. “And I keep what’s mine.”

One of my favs

I love the Callie Dalton version of this but couldn’t resist when I saw it had been re-released with a new cast. I’m glad I didn’t resist.

The story is as good as ever. It’s a slow burn like all MZ books but there are lots of interactions that keep you going until the deed is done! We have a sweet, and in many ways innocent Iris who in other ways has lived a thousand lifetimes. Dex, who is a reluctant WMC member who has turned his life around after some mistakes when younger landed him in prison. Their paths collide when Iris goes to work for Dex and although they don’t get off to the best start they eventually get their act together. There is a lot going on including Iris’s reprobate father who although absent for most of his life still manages to cause problems for his children. It’s a great story and a great listen.

In this version Ava Erickson does the honours as Iris and does a really good job. Bradley Ford does the honours as Dex and his voice is just perfect for the grumpy, older, biker. Finally Seb Yorke plays every other male character and sounds like he’s just having an absolute ball doing it. All three do a really great job.

If you’ve not listened to this before, and even if you have listened to the previous version, this is well worth a credit.

Fantastic

Definitely worth a purchase. All the narrators were fab. I do prefer Callie Dalton in the female role, but this is a nice alternative.

the new release is amazing

the multicast performance is what this book needed. its a favorite no matter what and I've lost count the times I read it but the duet style made me love it more.

Could not finish

I usually love this author, but I could simply not finish this book - stopped at about 70%! I found the female lead to be completely uninspiring and her low self esteem and submission to the male lead turned me off completely. The male lead I found insufferable, it just took the alpha male stereotype a little too far to the point where I found their relationship toxic. I think this is one of the authors earlier books and I’ll stick to the more recent ones as I think those have more mature character development
