Nella settimana che precede la Pasqua, torna in Israele Kaminka, padre di tre figli ormai sposati, e marito di una donna chiusa da anni in manicomio. Abita negli Stati Uniti, ha una nuova compagna e aspetta un figlio. Sono dunque le pratiche del divorzio che Kaminka deve avviare, ma il rientro in patria e in famiglia non avviene senza traumi. Davanti a un avvenimento così grave, vengono a galla i nodi irrisolti, le vecchie ferite, scatenando una crisi progressiva che esplode proprio il giorno di Pasqua. Il dramma della famiglia sconvolta dalla divisione "tardiva" dei genitori si arricchisce di una miriade di particolari che ne fanno un forte affresco di vita contemporanea, non soltanto israeliana.
