An excellent book about disturbing times. Hard to put down once into the story. A very good listen and recommended.

A Jewish viewpoint close to my heart
My own Grandfather was a Berlin jew who's first family was wiped out by the Nazi just prior to WWII. He was one of the lucky ones who escaped and fled to England before the war - and became a decorated British war hero, carrying out no fewer than 17 drops behind enemy lines as a para commando.
This story was a stunning, often horrific portrayal of the increasingly horrendous life for a German jew. The bleak situation that these people faced has clearly been thoroughly researched and illustrated masterfully, often in a brutal light. It's not all doom and gloom though - some fascinating political insight, there's a lot of loves crossing, some really great and often hilarious characters - and of course, the central two brothers - who are excellent protagonists to follow.
Having been a fan of Ben Elton's for my entire life - from The Young Ones - though his various TV works - into his writing. I've read a fair few of his works. His style and pace - generally quick and digestible is matched by his insightful research and creative plots. If you liked this, you may like The First Causality - his WWI story - also really good.

Excellent writing and excellent delivery
Terribly beautiful book - literally - Ben Elton has outdone himself here. The reader is also amazingly good at characterisation - I particularly admire the characterisation of Billy. As to the plot, well I don't want to give anything away, but I was on the edge of my seat throughout.

Good book, whiny narration.
Had to perservere with the narration, don't know why they seem to prefer the whiny nasally tones to narrate their books?
But a cracking story.

Two brothers by Ben Elton.
This is a fantastic novel which is based on Ben Elton's own family history.
Mr Elton has successfully encapsulated Berlin in the 1920s and 30s and the evil of the Nazi party.
The characters in this book are likable and you really get to know them, warts and all.
I became very invested in their fate.
This book isn't all doom and gloom though.
The way the brothers talk to each other can be comical, as can the ridiculous ideas of the Nazis.
Mr Elton has written a fantastic book.
I love it and I have listened to it over and over again, each time picking up on something I missed the last time.
