While this book managed to keep the plot fairly self-contained, it did a good job of setting up the mechanics of the world and the main cast who will be carrying the series in subsequent instalment. The initial premise for why the main character ends up in the game world was interesting enough, there are enough things hinted at about the company running the game to return to in later books too, so there are plenty of options for how the author can progress things.

While the main characters were somewhat basic archetypes, one thing that really helped them to come alive in this book was the performances of the two narrators, who between them ensured that the voices were all suitably distinctive and helped provide a greater degree of immersion in the story than if it had just been the one narrator. The format for the dual narration was for the male and female voices being assigned to the corresponding narrator, unlike other books where the split tends to be done per chapter depending on who was the main character, which wouldn't have worked as well in this one.

Overall, this was an entertaining start to this series that was nicely enhanced by the narration.

Dual narrators gimmick works really well

I loved this audiobook.
It is honest and unabashed about being a story about an human mind inserted into a RPG game.

The story is well written and paced with some truly fun twists that kept me listening solidly.

The story has left me genuinely desperate for more. I need to know what will happen next.

The performance of characters is truly top level and is flawless throughout. The characters even sound like they have tusks (a small detail but honestly it made the difference).

I cannot really fault this book at all. The story is simple but beautifully executed alongside a stellar performance.

I felt this was a little rushed, some aspects of the story seemed not quite right, but its an ok listen. the narration is good. overall worth a listen.

Guy permanently uploads as to an experimental VR game as an ork. Most of the book was the standard "hi everybody I'm new here" story, but the last quarter went too dark for me having torture and rape.

I received a review copy of this book. The story is interesting and the narration is excellent, however, several aspects of the book turned me off it:
-The main character is overtly misogynistic. All females are actively commented as attractive and immediately attracted to him, which is a shame as they are otherwise interesting characters.
-He is an unlikable bully, brutalising others with flimsy justification.
-The focus of the description on the brutality of the violence I actually found distracting to the story.

Whilst I can accept that an orc society is likely to be overly violent and even more sexualised, or that such brutality can be used as a pivot to the story, this felt almost as if the story was written to justify the brutality of the main character.

Don't judge this book by its cover, or the first two chapters, as the LitRpg part is where the real meat and bones is at.
The adventure starts out just like a rpg game, and follows quite logical path in its adventures with plenty of blood and gore.
This book paints quite good picture in your mind about everything and is very easy to follow, character voices are interestingly done - the somewhat monotone cadence in the beginning is quickly forgotten with all the action and NPC interactions, the female voice has quite interesting timbre as well, making even level ups fun listen.
All in all, worthy listen with a vivid adventure, so looking forward to more books in this series!
