About this listen

Ninth circle. Treachery. Also known as Tanner Caine.

He is a temptation with cold, dark eyes. A man with a seductive smirk and a body built for pure sin. The linchpin of a group of wealthy bad boys known as the Inferno. A dark presence that repels as much as he attracts, Tanner is the poisoned apple I want to bite even when I know it will destroy me. Our story started in college, but I ran from him so far I believed I was safe.

I should have known he’d find me eventually. I should have known that nobody escapes. He has me in his sights again with an offer I can’t pass up. I know better than to make a deal with the Devil. Not unless I’m willing to pay his sensual price.

Book one now includes the prequel previously published.

Each novel in the series depicts a unique romance, but the plots through each book connect in one world. For the best experience, listen to the series in order.

Nine Ruthless Men. Nine Unrepentant Sinners. Nine Irresistible Manipulators.

Female voice annoying

I love the series and this being the first full audiobook I’ve listened to, I have to say I am disappointed by the performance and voice of the female. Her inflections were f ridiculous

Absolutely brilliant!

Lily White delivered a solid enemy-to-lover story. There wasn't a dull moment in the story; once I started listening, I couldn't stop. Treachery is a unique spin on Dante's Inferno Circles; it's cleverly written and very well-plotted with terrific character development. The storyline is totally engaging and deliciously dark with plenty of drama, genuine emotions, intensity, secrets, betrayal, treachery, and mind-blowing twists and turns. I seriously can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

Ramona Radcliff and Blake Lockheart did an outstanding job bringing the characters to life. They captured and portrayed the complexity of the characters' personalities and emotions flawlessly. I could easily picture the scenes and the cast. Treachery is a fantastic start to the Antihero Inferno series and so worth the listen. I'm definitely recommending this audiobook.

Tanner is Treachery.

I received this audiobook via a promo code at Aural Fixation Giveaways and this is my voluntary review.

Book 1 of the 9 Anti-hero Inferno's series. This is the only one adapted for Audiobook just yet, and only 3 of the ebooks have been completed as of (19/05/2022) so thats worth noting before you commence listening.

This installment focus's on Luca and Tanner, the typical poor good girl/possessive man-hoe bad boy bully from a wealthy family trope is in full swing. Luca first has the unfortune of meeting Tanner Caine while at a party in university, they didnt get off to the best start, it appears she was an assignment from his father, one he failed poorly, even though he does succeed in getting her into his bed. She flees from his dark possessiveness but its not far enough. 3 years later and hes now her former husbands divorce attorney, adamant that she rekindle their firey connection in his bed or he will bury her in court fees and false allegations until shes ruined.

One way or another, time spent in the crosshairs of Tanner Caine always leads to her destruction.

(Lily White seems to be spending almost way too much time setting up the other 8 books in the series... I think the constant having to introduce the other 8 male characters and give snippets of their enemies to lovers backstories was a bit forced in this book, it really slowed down the pace and more time should have been dedicated to building up the generational divides between Tanner and his Fathers cronies to build the suspense better)

The author mostly succeeded

I’ve read a bunch of bully romances lately, and it’s always hit or miss. It’s a difficult trope to write because the shift in the bullied’s feelings for the bully must be plausible. More often than not, it’s just lust with a strong attraction for bad boys, nothing to warrant love and commitment. Here the author mostly succeeded–Tanner has an interest in Luca right from the beginning, and some of his actions speak of deeper feelings, even though Luca doesn’t see it that way at first. So, in the end, I could almost accept their declarations of love.

Not completely though. I really had a problem with Tanner. Sure, he has good reasons for his actions, and even unselfish ones. Sure, he does things for Luca that she isn’t aware of. But the manipulation? The denial of consent? When just a bit of communication would have helped a lot, it’s unacceptable. As for his declaration of love, I’ll let you be the judge.

I loved Luca though. Most of the time, she does things to spite Tanner, but she also wants full control of her life. Tanner says that’s why he was attracted to her, because she wouldn’t bow to his will. Okay, why not. Her actions aren’t always the most coherent or logical, and she puts herself in danger sometimes, but she’s also capable of manipulating the people around her. Her main flaw is how easy it is for her to forgive Tanner, in my opinion. Again, you judge.

The story is in two parts. First one is a college romance with some bullying, set in the past. It introduces the characters, Tanner’s group of friends especially. There are some hints at a bigger plot orchestrated by their fathers, and it’s also the beginning of Luca and Tanner’s story as they succumb to their attraction for one unforgettable night. Second part starts a few years later, and is more romantic suspense. We get some answers about who they are, what they want, and how they plan to obtain it, but not all–this part of the story is developped during the whole series. The main point is also that the characters aren’t what they seemed to be in the first part.

The steam is there, but besides a couple of more detailed scenes, it’s mostly fade to black or remembrance. Since lust and attraction are the main reasons Tanner and Luca get together in the first place, it seems a weird choice, in my opinion.

With the whole premise–each member of the Inferno representing a circle of hell–of course the side characters often seem two-dimensional, reduced to one trait, even in the second part of the story. We get the reason why they act as they do, but they don’t change.

Narration was okay. I wasn’t a fan of the female narrator’s delivery to be honest, slightly going up at the end of sentences, like they were in suspense. The male narrator did a great job at the growly alpha character. I have to warn about a couple of editing problems that took me out of the story each time.

Fantastic!

This was a a fabulous intense and galvanising read, now brought to life in audio by two skilled narrators. Treachery, aka Tanner, with fellow members of the Inferno, are skilled and determined manipulators, destined to rule their corner of the world! Mind you, nothing is that simple! Their greatest enemies are those closest to them! With Luca in Tanner's sights all hell is set to be let lose in her world.
Both Blake Lockheart and Ramona Radcliff are excellent interpreters of all the characters and events, keeping my attention firmly riveted on the unfolding story. Fabulous listen! 💖 💖💖💖💖

Great Narration

Treachery is book one in the Antihero Inferno series with Tanner Caine being the Antihero. Tanner and his eight friends are a group of tight-knit fraternity brothers, born into corrupt, wealthy families. The band of brothers are tired of being pushed around and being used and abused by their evil fathers so hatch an escape plan…enter Luca!
This book was full of cruelty and secrets and lies. The meanness bordered on being savage, so much so that it seemed to overshadow the romance element of the book.
Luca frustrated me massively, no person in their right mind would keep going back and would be so reasonable when these people have singlehandedly changed the course of your life and been responsible for some of the biggest events that have happened to date! Honestly, I didn’t know who I wanted to throat punch more during this, Luca for her stupidity or Tanner for all the vile stunts and his general attitude! I spent a lot of this book shouting, are you crazy? Are you taking p**s? What the actual f**k! or evil bas***ds!
Ramona Radcliff and Blake Lockheart are new to me narrators. I loved Ramona’s performance, she managed to get Luca’s characterisation spot on and convey to us listeners that while she is quiet and reserved there is also a sarcastic and sharp-tongued woman lurking beneath the surface. Blake nailed the fact that Tanner was twisted, menacing, and loved screwing with people with his deep, growly tone, however, Blake also showed Tanners softer side toward the latter of the book, and I loved this side of Blake’s voice.
I wanted to love this so much and based on the blurb I really thought I would, however, I struggled massively and if it weren’t for the great narration I would have given up. The 16-hour 15-minute audio time seemed excessive and quite honestly, I feel it could have been cut down by around half, it felt very rambly in places which caused me to zone out. I only just made it through this and even though it ended on a cliff-hanger, I just can’t find it in myself to care how the rest of this series plays out….sorry!

Lily White, Ramona Radcliffe, and Blake Lockheart are a great combo!

I absolutely loved this first book in the Antihero Inferno Series! Tanner Caine is the perfect Anti-hero… he and his eight friends are a tight-knit fraternity of brothers, born to wealthy and corrupt families. Tired of being manipulated by their fathers, they are playing a dangerous game when they start to push back. Luca is a fellow law student, and Tanner has his eyes set on her as her family has something theirs wants. Tanner is good at playing the long game, but Luca only seems quiet on the surface. She’s sarcastic, sharp, and a survivor. This book was well-written and paced, the excellent narration helping the story fly by in no time at all. Throughly enjoyed this book!!

Absolutely brilliant, I highly recommend this audio

Where to start. This is a fantastic bully to lovers storyline. The chemistry is off the charts. I literally melted several times throughout this book. Ramona and Blake both give a great performance but there’s something about Blake’s tone of voice that has me on my knees!!
I can’t wait for the next book.
