About this listen

Here is a travel audiobook with a difference: 10 chronological chapters from a year of wandering, from the Pacific Northwest to Tuscany and back again to the trout-laden streams of California. Join Bill Barich as he travels the globe, from the trout streams of Northern California to the auction ring at Saratoga, where millions of dollars may be gaveled away for a yearling thoroughbred; from seedy London pubs to a run-down Florentine palazzo during a glorious Italian spring. Learn the science of English beer brewing, the art of fly tying, how to generate hydroelectric power, the proper analysis of the Daily Racing Form, and the best way to eat artichokes.

Freshness, wit, and Barich's distinctive voice create a luminous travelogue crackling with an inimitable curiosity and an elegance of style that marks every step of this remarkable journey.

I really enjoyed this even though I had absolutely no liking for either fishing or horse racing, travel yes definitely. Bill Barich's humour was fine, I laughed and liked the man, especially well put across by Stephen Graybill, I could happily listened to much more.

Thanks for an enjoyable ramble, loved it.

seemed to purely involve wandering to fishing locations and race courses ... hoped for other bits but sadly not

hmmm

Bill Barich pursues his passions with enthusiasm. If anything, the book ended too soon, for a female only just learning about reels and flies, casting and finding the best fishing spot. He also is interested in horses and racing, and, needless to say, I didn't know anything about that either! Very interesting, I will listen to more of his work.

I’m English, and live part in London part Paris ..

London , is like many large Cities, it has its unpleasant parts , yet mostly London is a wonderful cosmopolitan City ..

In his first introduction Bill , tells us
,, , London is a drab wet ugly City.
What an insult..!

London. has less rain than Paris , furthermore it smells clean .. is cleaner .
Rich historic building.
Many lovely parks .
Fabulous night life and marvellous food ,

The sky is very often blue , days warm ..

After that I didn’t wish to hear this persons opinion of ANY City .

If he is soo wrong about London , then I’m certainly not interested in his opinion of other beautiful places .
Typical American idiot ..
He sets out to insult everything.
No thanks .

Bad start ...
