About this listen

The Audible and New York Times best-selling Dispatcher series returns with a brand-new mystery, performed by Zachary Quinto.

The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier.

But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing. When Tony is called to a Chicago emergency room by an old friend and fellow dispatcher, he is suddenly and unwillingly thrown into a whirlpool of schemes and plots involving billions of dollars, with vast caches of wealth ranging from real estate to cryptocurrency up for grabs.

All Tony wants to do is keep his friend safe. But it’s hard to do when friends keep secrets, enemies offer seductive deals, and nothing is ever what it seems. The world has changed...but the stakes are still life and death.

Interesting story, if not as interesting as the others. Didn't feel as centered on the dispatching elements as the others, which is a shame, but still very enjoyable.

Weakest of the three but still very good

good story with nice twists and turns. I do like this narrator, makes the story come alive without being over the top

a good story

Another solid Dispatcher novel, well read by Quinto, and just as exciting as the previous two. This one had less of the relationship between Tony and his detective friend, which was a shame as I do enjoy their banter, but overall it was still an enjoyable, edge of your seat read.

Three for Three on the Dispatcher novels

This been the 3rd book and having listened to all 3 in a row over 2 and a bit days says a lot about the quality of the story lines.

Grate story idea that could run forever.

I like this series short and sweet stories that keep you engaged with all the plot twists.

Good story

I realise it was paid for by Amazon but weird to hear the echo show and Alexa get shutouts so much.

excellent series but weird references to Amazon

Loved it, was a great trilogy, was short but didn't need to be any longer, Quinto is one of the best narrators.

Another tidy novella by Scalzi, based on his conceit of 'Dispatchers'. Enjoyable, although I'd like him to explore the philosophical angles a bit more (as he did in his excellent novel 'Redshirts').

Another nice SF(-ish) noir detective story.

Devastated to find out there are no other books in the series yet… performance is outstanding

Love it, shame there is no more

As always John Scalzi produces a fun, sly, quirky story. Love the Dispatcher stories. You should read all of them.

A most excellent story
