Summary

An extraterrestrial object is discovered off the coast of California - a sphere that can transport humans to other solar systems.

Death-row inmate Russell Harris and nine other convicts are given the chance to save their lives by agreeing to travel as test subjects on the transporter. But when the first volunteer dies a gruesome death, it becomes clear to Russell and his comrades that the venture is little more than a merciless death mission on which they will all perish.

The surviving Transporter project members find themselves on a new planet and establish a colony alongside a group of abandoned soldiers and scientists. But mortal peril approaches, and the battle for survival has only just begun.

Liked it a lot although a little predictable

Yeah, a good listen but I was shouting my phone with solutions to dramatic plot points... actually quite satisfying to be right. I'd gladly listen to the next instalment.

First half fantastic!

As always the narrator was excellent. The first half of the book was great until what seemed to be a random illogical decision my the protagonist left them stranded on a strange world.. yet despite still having access to an infinite number of other worlds they stayed there for 20 years LOL.. that is all.

a story of two halves

this was a great listen overall its basically the first two books in a series . The first book has a great pace to it and plenty of revelations . The second is much slower paced but with a decent payoff and the end left me wanting to find out what will happen . if you love sci fi i would recommend this . If i had to sum it up i would say it sort of gives me the Stargate feels . And I loved that movie !!

Shouty man reads uninventive story

US military inadvertently maroon criminals on a distant planet so they can commit genocide. Yay humans.

Warning. The last paragraph sets it up for a quite possibly even worse sequel.
