About this listen

Just seven minutes younger than her twin sister, Evelyn Eve Carter has always felt like the shadow sister. She's fun when her sister is functional, more go with the flow than the structured nature of her womb-mate. Even looking exactly alike, she somehow still managed to come second to the first guy she really crushed on, Nick Atterton. Her sister's high school boyfriend. Her sister's near-fiancé. Fleeing halfway across the country to attend college in Miami, FL, Eve hopes to distance herself from that beacon of perfection and the daily soul crushing feeling of inadequacy.

Nick Atterton has loved the game of hockey since he was six years old. The next closest thing to that pure, unfiltered adoration was his high school girlfriend. But when he cant commit to forever, they end things. Just in time for his trade to Miami.

A quick trip home for Christmas ends up rerouted when Nick and Eve find their flight emergency landed in Nashville due to an unexpected ice storm. Will tinsel and trinkets be the only thing exchanged this holiday season? Or will they be permanently added to the naughty list?

Dropped Puck Series is a six book hockey romance series following the Chicago Sharks as they fight through a season of ups and downs. An interconnected collection of stand-alones, each book can be listened to on their own, but I do recommend following the order in which the books are published, as the characters do make follow up appearances in the subsequent stories.

Hockey hottie romance

It was so good to get this story after listening to book 2 of this series. Definitely this is not a true standalone because there's backstory that adds so much to this book's plot. Yes, it's mentioned and alluded to, but I highly recommend reading them in order. I was apprehensive about the book's plot, but think the author did a great job showing the main characters' emotional journeys to get them to this point. It was fulfilling to get this story.

I thought the narrator did a good job voicing both parts, which I'm sure is hard. While her male voice was not my favorite, I could definitely hear when she changed characters so it didn't take me out of the story.

Great

Great. Fun, but seriously considers the bonds of family and dating each others ex significant others, and friendships growing before and after relationships.

a smooth but slow holiday story

"Trading Tinsel" from the Dropped Puck Series, Book 3, by Rosie P. Burke, narrated by Amber Goode, explores the intriguing yet gently-paced romance between Nick, a professional hockey player, and the twin sister of his ex-girlfriend. This unique setup promises a blend of second-chance romance and taboo allure as Nick attempts to navigate the complexities of dating within such a close circle.

Amber Goode's narration brings a soothing quality to the story, capturing the nuances of forbidden attraction and lingering feelings with a soft touch. Her performance is consistent and pleasant, aligning well with the book’s mellow content. However, the narrative itself, while sweet and without malice, stretches thinly across its lengthy runtime due to a notable lack of conflict or significant plot twists.

The storyline focuses on Nick and his romantic interest, who has harbored feelings for him since their first encounter. This backstory adds layers to their interactions and provides a foundation for their rekindling relationship. However, the absence of substantial obstacles or deeper character challenges makes the extensive listening time feel protracted and somewhat uneventful.

For fans of the series, "Trading Tinsel" offers a familiar return to beloved characters and settings with the added spice of a potentially controversial romance. Yet, those seeking a story with more dramatic tension or a faster pace might find this installment lacking. It's a holiday-themed romance that skates smoothly on the ice of its plot but doesn't venture into the more thrilling territory of emotional hockey checks and breakaways.
