Summary

She'll do anything to free her sister and save the Earth from invasion, even if she's blackmailed into stealing sacred alien artifacts...and becomes the prey of the dark, deadly warrior sent to hunt her down.

Special Forces Space Marine Lara Traynor wants to save her sister and her planet from annihilation by the deadly insectoid Kantos. Earth's Space Corps give her one option: steal three gems sacred to the Eon Warriors. Lara has never failed a mission and she doesn't plan to start now. What she doesn't expect is the big, hard-bodied warrior the Eon sent to stop her.

Security Commander Caze Vann-Jad was born and raised to be the best Eon warrior in the empire. Honed by the military academy, his years as a stealth agent, and by his hard warrior father, he has never failed. He knows one weak, inferior Terran is no match for him. But when he finds himself face to face with the tough, skilled Lara, he realizes he's underestimated the female warrior.

When they are attacked by a Kantos kill squad, it soon becomes clear that the Kantos are planning something far darker and dangerous. Caze and Lara are forced to change their dangerous battle of wits and skill into a fierce battle for survival. Neither of these fighters believe in love, but on the trail of a stolen gem, they will ignite an unstoppable desire, and discover that not only are their lives at stake, but their hearts as well.

The Book

Oh Wow! Anna Hackett has done it again! I absolutely loved this action packed and steamy Sci-Fi Romance, but if you have a thing about bugs....

'Touch of Eon', the second book in the Eon Warriors series picks up the story of Space Corps Special Forces Space Marine Lieutenant Lara Traynor that began towards the end of book one, 'Edge of Eon' and is a terrific addition to Anna Hackett's new series. Action packed and edgy with humour and steam, this terrific sci-fi adventure once again demonstrates why her amazing imagination and story telling abilities have made her one of my all-time favourite authors, no matter what genre she's writing in. But, I'll warn you now, if you have a thing about bugs, you may want to start reading this early in the day, with lots of light....

Like her younger sister Eve, tough Space Marine Lara has essentially been blackmailed into what, at first glance, has all the hallmarks of a suicide mission. In short, enter Eon space, where Terrans are persona non-grata, and steal their three sacred stones from temples on different planets and hold them hostage in order to get help from the Eon in their impending war with the insectoid Kantos. Yep, not really the best way to go about it, but so far, the Space Corps 'powers that be' haven't exactly demonstrated any form of higher intelligence and whoever cooked up this particular strategy of asking for help should be sacked - for rank incompetence. But thanks to the successful outcome of Eve's mission, the Eon are aware of the plan and have sent the Security Commander of the Desteron, Caze Vann-Jad to try and catch her, and he almost managed it but the slippery woman got away from him. Now he's angry and even more determined, almost has her again on Thalla, but the Kantos want the stones too and have set a trap....

I absolutely loved this terrific story with it's action, adventure and even some steamy bits. It's humorous and downright laugh out loud funny in places with a hunkalicious hero and feisty heroine who strike sparks off each other and have chemistry you can almost feel as they work together against the Kantos, but there are parts of this book that made my skin crawl, and I don't have a thing about bugs! In places there were scenes so intense they had me holding my breath as our heroes battled to escape or just simply survive, places I was on the edge of my seat rooting for the good guys and places that had me twitching to get away and trying to force the characters to run. Phew! By the time I got to the end, I was emotionally drained and desperate for the happily ever after... Thankfully, I got it! But then I always do with Anna Hackett's books. There are no cliff-hangers here, although there is the beginning of the next story near the end of the book and I can't wait to read it. I've given 'Touch of Eon' 5 spectacularly well-earned stars and a place on my 'rescue if the house is burning down' list. I'm also pretty sure this book will be a permanent resident on my 'read again' list.

The Audio

I got this as an ebook when it was first published, and I'll freely admit that I'm totally addicted to this series. I've read it a few times since then, but I now have intermittent problems with my eyes, so I've turned to audio books to fill my need to re-read my favourites. I did try audio books a few years ago, but the narration was so bad, even dreadful, that I gave up on them for a while, however, Anna Hackett seems to get significantly better narrators than some I've listened to and Vivienne Leheny, the narrator of this book is pretty good, actually, one of the best I've heard. She seems to understand the all action, gritty nature of both the characters and the story, maintaining the edginess to the very end. She really is very good, I wasn't disappointed in any way. Having listened to the first book in the series and been really impressed, I got all the other books in the series that are available as audio versions to back up my kindle versions, just so I don't get withdrawal symptoms when I can't read them. This is my review of the second book in the series. The audio versions also have the added bonus of allowing me to do other things whilst listening. I find I listen a lot more than I read these days and have already listened to this one several times since getting it. I was lucky enough to get a free code for this audio book, and as I had already posted an honest review of the ebook several years ago, I decided to update that review with my personal opinion of the audible narration, especially as I have been so disenchanted by audio books in the past.

Soooooo repetitive….

This book used the exact same template as the previous book in this series, making it totally predictable, with so many repetitive scenarios, it was all but a carbon copy. So disappointing.
