Das Higher Barton Romantic Hotel beherbergt eine besondere Art von Gästen: Geisterjäger. Mit technischen Geräten möchten die Besucher der Vergangenheit des alten Hauses und einem Mordfall aus dem 19. Jahrhundert auf die Spur kommen. Die Hotelinhaberin Sandra Flemming, die nicht an Geister glaubt, ist trotzdem vom wissenschaftlichen Vorgehen der Gruppe fasziniert. Doch dann stirbt einer der Teilnehmer, vermeintlich weil ihn ein Geist zu Tode erschreckt hat.
Sandra schließt einen Geist als Mörder aus, doch niemand hatte ein Motiv oder die Möglichkeit, den Mord zu begehen. Als seltsame, paranormale Dinge im Higher Barton Romantic Hotel geschehen, wird es für Sandra schwer, die Wahrheit ans Licht zu bringen.
