About this listen

Elliot Carver - the ultra-rich media mogul - has found a way to "create" news and broadcast it all over the world as it happens. Now he has devised the ultimate plan: to start a war between Great Britain and China. The conflict will reach every television in the world and garner the highest ratings in history. A man who can start a war anytime and anywhere he pleases - and then profit from it - will be the most powerful man in the world. But Carver didn't count on James Bond.

A great adaptation of the film. Fast paced, excellent narration and interesting to hear a bit more about the characters and action.

Excellent

From the perspective of a person who has seen the movie, the book gives the impression of being a cheap and short let-down made based on the movie script. The thing is that the way the movie is made just doesn't work as a book that well, and the book mostly just tries to describe what is being seen on the screen. That, however, is a fault of Benson, and Vance's reading is really brilliant, as a have grown to expect from the other Bond books he has read. Still, please watch the movie instead of listening this book.

Just a copy of the movie

Tomorrow Never Dies is one of my favourite Bond films, so the novel was already going to get a high rating from me. There are some interesting differences to the film, but overall an excellent story, with great narration by Simon Vance.

Just like the film

Up until this book the franchise had retained something of the Ian Fleming spirit, but now it is a comedy where Bond delivers cheesy one liners, Q hands out outrageous gadgets and the authors mimics the worst aspects of the movies. Everything before this book is (sort of) respectful of the Fleming Bond but having gone through them all in chronological order, this book put me off the franchise.

The first James Bond book where the franchise dies

Two things sadly lacking - an editor for the author, a producer for the performer.

Good film plot but poorly realized as a book
