About this listen

The Emmy award-winning former executive producer of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report has assembled a stellar lineup of men who have one thing in common: all have been dumped...and are willing to share their pain and the lessons learned.

Relationships end. And in almost all of them, even the most callow among us take something away. This is a book about that something, whether it be major life lessons, like "If you lie, you will get caught," simple truths like, "Flowers work," or something wholly unique like, "Watch out for the high strung brother in the military." This anthology will be comprised of longer and shorter pieces, drawn from an array of impressive celebrities, writers and public figures. Some pieces may be a paragraph in length while others will be full-blown essays. All of them will be about that salient something men take away from a failed relationship. Yes, men learn.

This is not a touchy-feely book. This is not a self-help book. This is a book packed with smart, funny and insightful stories from men you probably thought never got dumped, or if they did, would never admit it.

Critic reviews

"Whether the men pathetically recall their failed dating attempts or are celebrating their record number of dumps as learned experiences, these witty, comical approaches to being dumped are sure to entertain anyone who has entered the world of dating." (Publishers Weekly)

Tedious

I thought this book would be light-hearted and amusing, but it quickly turned out to be boorishly unfunny.

Like going to a nice drinks party only to get cornered by some braying dullard who thinks he's hilarious, but who lacks the awareness to notice he's the only one laughing.

Don't bother waste of time Audio sample OK intro

Where to start I heard the sample and this could be good and funny so got it. As I said in the header great sample to get you interested then nick hornby's intro and your thinking this will be good then if dive off a cliff with no return. I don't know what I was expecting but not this drivel. In chapter 3 there were 2nannecdotes that were OK to pass the time before the book finally drowned.
If you have enough time to read this review it's better than the book don't bother. Go paint a wall watch it dry while talking to yourself and that's a better use of time.
Good luck for those that do listen/read this book

Boring, Boring Boring

What would have made Things I've Learned from Women Who've Dumped Me better?

Stories that were actually funny or in some way insightful. This is an attempt by a series of so-so writers to replicate Hornby's High Fidelity - a feat with Hornby himself has not been able to do since that book.

What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Made it funny, or not written it at all.

Did the narrator do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Narrative was reasonable, but nothing special.

What character would you cut from Things I've Learned from Women Who've Dumped Me?

Pretty much all of them. Only 1 story was worth the 10 minutes listening to.

Any additional comments?

Good on Audible for offering a credit back in exchange for this book. Otherwise it would have been a total waste. Don't buy it,
