About this listen

Greed, revenge and world domination are just some of the ingredients in this James Bond adventure. After oil tycoon Sir Robert King is killed in a bombing at MI6 headquarters, his daughter, Elektra, inherits his fortune and the attentions of her father's killer. His name is Renard. A bullet lodged in his brain has rendered him unable to feel physical pain, and he has but one reason left to live - revenge. There's only one man who can take the heat between a beautiful heiress, a malicious sociopath and his final diabolical plan, agent 007.

Mostly a summation of the film's plot, with some nice extra flourishes

Benson's breezy Fleming-lite style of prose gives this a nice connective tissue to the actual James Bond books, preventing this from just being a facisimile of the shooting script, but beyond that, unlike his Tomorrow Never Dies adaptation, there's very little about this book that stands out as different or unique enough from the film to warrant a read. There are one or two nice chapters that elaborate on Elektra and Renard's back stories but otherwise this is a solid, unremarkable recap of a solid, unremarkable film.

Orbis non sufficit

TWINE is not one of my favourite Bond films, and in fact it's not even in my top half. However this book does improve on some of the films plot threads, and Simon Vance's narration is far superior to the somewhat clichéd film acting from Denise Richards, Robert Carlisle, and Goldie.
