About this listen

The first in a brand new cosy romantic series from the bestselling author of The Village Green Bookshop!
A heartwarming, feel-good novel full of friendship, family secrets, and finding love where you least expect it...

When Rilla Clark's long lost father dies, she leaves New England and heads to his cottage in the Scottish Highlands to sort out his affairs. Rilla's determined that her visit will be a fleeting one. The little village of Applemore holds a lot of memories for her, but looking back might just open up her heart, which she's kept well-guarded until now.

Lachlan Fraser is less than delighted with his inheritance. He left the grand, crumbling Applemore House as soon as he could, and he can't see why his three sisters love it so much. Gathered together at their family estate, the battle of wills over what to do with the house is just beginning when into their life walks Rilla, who they haven't seen for over fifteen years…

Old friendships and long-hidden emotions are rekindled as the romance of a Highland winter works its magic - will Rilla and Lachlan discover that home isn't a place, but a feeling?

Full of warmth and romance, this is the perfect cosy escape to curl up with, ideal for fans of Cathy Bramley, Holly Martin, and Katie Fforde.

An easy listen, no nasties! Excellent narration, the narrator gives each character a sense of individuality. Predictable, but still very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book, it was well read and like the realistic Scottish accent. It was a bit predictable, but nice if you like that sort of thing.

Great narration, I could listen for hours, very easy on the ear. Very predictable, curl up with your coco and prepare for a ‘made for TV’ American Christmas movie. I like all the descriptions of the area, overall a nice listen.

Predictably shmaltzy

Lovely easy flowing story - like having a warm hug by the fire. Was totally invested from the start, despite knowing what would happen. Loved it!

When a book starts with someone saluting a magpie, you know it's going to be good. This was a very sweet story, expertly narrated. I was so impressed with all the subtly different voices the narrator did. She is very talented!

This book just made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

A freeby, to tide me over to my next credit! It was so slow I had to listen on 1.2 speed. Beautiful descriptions, O.K. characters & totally predictable. Cosy but boring, glad I didn’t waste a credit

Unremarkable!

The story is quite obvious where it is going throughout, but it’s a lovely gentle story with characters you like!!
