Summary

February, 1944. A bitter winter grips occupied France, where Marc Reece leads a circuit of British agents risking their lives in order to sabotage the German war effort from within. But Reece has a second mission, secret even from his fellow agents - including Charlotte, the woman with whom he has ill-advisedly fallen in love. He must secure a document identifying a German spy at the heart of British intelligence. The fate of the Allied forces on D-Day is in his hands.

But when his circuit is ambushed - with fatal consequences - Reece realises there may be a traitor in its ranks, putting everything they've been fighting for at risk. Then Charlotte goes missing. Is she in danger, or has Reece been betrayed by the only person he thought he could trust? And with the clock ticking towards D-Day, can he find the truth before it's too late?

A gripping and atmospheric thriller inspired by true events, this is the story of a deadly game of espionage, destined to change the course of the most crucial battle in the Second World War.

A really great read

Keeble is king as far as I’m concerned.

But this was a fantastic, fast paced WW2 thriller.

We’ll done Gareth, loved it!

Nice idea but too many easy coincidences

Nice conceit, but lazy writing with too many coincidences even for Sherlock .

Rather too cliched which seemed unnecessary

It was as if it was rushed.

Brilliant narration

Really gripping story line. Bravery, treachery, deception, betrayal. This had it all. Except written.

Amazing story and narration

This has been an amazing story. Full of twists and turns, highs and lows. The narration brought everything to life. I felt I was taken back to 1944 (or at least watching and old movie). The combination of a great story and fantastic read made this a compelling listen. Highly recommended.

Fantastic book

This was an exciting roller coaster of a story inspired by true events. Twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat along with the excellent narration, well drawn characters and exciting plot lines. One of the best I have listened to and was history at its best. Brilliant!

Enjoyable and well researched story with a twist

Enjoyable and well researched story with a twist in the tale. One of the better plots in this genre.

Enjoyable but ...

This is a good listen yet it's spoilt by a constant stream of commentary as to why events occur, almost like excuses as to why/how it happened. In that sense, it's quite amateurish. It is also, unfortunately, bereft of details on any injuries sustained and, almost, 'A Team-esque'.

Therefore, it can be 'silly'.

OK

Found this far less enjoyable than Alex Gerlis books as it was over dramatic and far fetched in places but also because the narrator really annoyed me with his over exaggerated accents and shouting for emphasis.

Bit too convoluted for me

I admit to half listening at times as, although fast paced and description good, it just went on too long for me. Narration a bit shouty at times but it is an action book so maybe it had to be and just not to my taste.
