Stephen Gordon is an ideal child of aristocratic parents - a fencer, a horse rider and a keen scholar. Stephen grows to be a war hero, a best-selling writer and a loyal, protective lover. This is a favourite book of mine and I thoroughly enjoyed this unabridged audible version

Beautiful book

Beautifully written and so interesting to read about LGBT life in the early 20th century. The reader has a lovely calm voice and is very good at all the accents in the book.

Tragic but fascinating

I love this book, although the narration sometimes let it down - especially in the French section, where the French was unintelligible and difficult to listen to.

Important story, mixed narration

A really important story but poorly narrated. The French section in particular was painful and clearly read by someone who'd never been near a French lesson. Such a shame.

Great story but poor narration.

Loved this book. Expertly performed and exquisite in its descriptions. Uplifting and heart breaking in equal measures

A wonderful book with a rich story.

This is too important a book not to get one of your top narrators recording it. This reader is an improvement on the last , Less machine-like, but in many places it's obvious she doesn't realise what's she's just said out loud and gets the phrasing wrong, so the sentence meaning is fluffed. Done in a hurry by an inexperienced artist with a pretty voice. Disappointing. Get Juliet Stephenson, Emma Thompson or Maxine Peake. Historically, it's a big enough piece of work. And a bloody good book.

Unintelligent narration, needs re recording

Well narrated. Courageously discribes a controversial life in a misogynistic era. Still relevant today. Would have liked a better ending.

My Favourite book.
