Summary

Demons are real. The supernatural is real. Magic is real. One man can become the master of all.

Wes is working the hotel lobby the night his life changes forever. Called to the top floor to deal with rowdy patrons, he finds himself in a high-stakes poker game alongside a beautiful woman who is, apparently, a demoness. To make the night crazier, the game ends with a startling revelation: Wes is a warlock, and he can bind demons to his will and command the infernal elements.

With his newfound powers, Wes will have no shortage of new hellish friends, but his enemies are almost equal in number. Among them are the famed Knights Templar, who have a keen interest in Earth's latest warlock.

Armed with the staff of Solomon the first warlock and surrounded by demonesses under his power, Wes aims not to be yet another dead member of the quickly diminishing warlock population.

Surprisingly good!

I was shocked when I first heard the bedroom scene. I tought the cover of the book was just for aesthetic, but boy oh boy. The story is good, the depiction is adequately vivid. The MC is a bit of a f*ck boy(he's a bit far from me), but damn it is well build up. Loved the style and the world build. I'm going to buy the next book. Chiao!

narration is fantastic, the premise great

Rozalyn does a fantastic job bringing the story to life. the premise - a young man finds out he has the ability to harness the magic of bonded familiars and is thrust into a world suffering the after effects of a purge.

a great premise sadly let down in parts by a passive MC. a lot of the plot happens TO him and he stumbles into things. he also talks too much, allowing enemies to outflank or prepare. it can be frustrating to hear.

some character discrepancies also flare up (hes a fantasy author wannabe but DOESNT recognise the Merlin / Nimue myth?) and he comes across as too uncreative and reliant on chance. the magic he can do isnt elaborated on as well.

however the world and plot itself are interestikg, seguing from church vs demons to everyone versus eldritch horrors.

a good story, not dantes best, but i will continue the series to book 2 to see how it develops!
