Summary

When Evie Nicholson is asked to visit Kettlesheer Castle in Scotland to archive the family heirlooms, she jumps at the chance. Evie's passion for antiques means that, for her, the castle is a treasure trove of mysteries just waiting to be uncovered.

But in each heirloom lies a story, and in the course of her investigations Evie stumbles upon some long-buried family secrets. Add handsome, gloomy heir Robert McAndrew and a traditional candlelit gala to the mix, and Evie's heart is sent reeling with an enthusiasm that may just extend beyond the Kettlesheer silver....

Average chick lit

I wouldn't choose to read another by the same author based on this book. It wasn't bad but predictable and narrated in a rather breathy style that I found slightly annoying.

A very light romance

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I don't think I would have continued to the end if I had been reading, but ok for car journey listening although at one point I just wanted to get to the end.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

More depth, more passion, more drama - most of the time I just wanted to tell her to stop being so annoyingly pathetic.

What aspect of Cathleen McCarron’s performance might you have changed?

Some of the voices were better than others.

Could you see The Vintage Girl being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No

Any additional comments?

Main character little too much "Woe is me" - I'm too tall, too gangly, too uncoordinated, too romantic - just too much angst for me.

A wonderful romance.

A great story of sisters, antiques, gorgeous men, dancing and day-dreams. Humour, romance and a dash of mysterious past. Just perfect for curling up with on a winter's evening (or whilst recovering from flu, like me). Enjoy

Genuinely laugh-out-loud funny

If you could sum up The Vintage Girl in three words, what would they be?

Fun, Scottish and old

What did you like best about this story?

Evie’s love of all things old and how Robert learned to humour her for it.

What about Cathleen McCarron’s performance did you like?

The emotion she put into the story was simply amazing. Although all the different voices were incredibly well done.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Does this question actually help people decide if they want the book?

Fun, light hearted love story

A lovely story told with the right pace to keep you wanting more. Really enjoyed the unravelling of Evie.

A bit of fun

A fun, well written story with a relatable protagonist. McCarron’s accent slips a few times but not enough to be terribly confusing. Ending is a little abrupt, could have benefited from an epilogue.
