Summary

Everything is familiar. But everything has changed.

Coming back to the little community is like walking into a nightmare for Jim Gardener, poet, drunk, potential suicide.

It all looks the same: the house; the furniture; Jim's friend, Bobbi; her beagle (though ageing); even the woods out at the back. But it was in the woods that Bobbi stumbled over the odd, part-buried object and felt a peculiar tingle as she brushed the soft earth away.

Everything is familiar. But everything is about to change.

My first ever audio book.

My first Audio book. Loved it. Great story which I was aware of as I had been advised to read this and I have read past SK books all of which I have enjoyed. I drive a lot so I wondered how good an audio book would be well it was super reading and I was able to focus on the story as well as drive. I look forward to trying more.

Fantastic

Another great book by Stephen King with memorable characters you feel like you know so well. The Tommyknockers had me laughing and even gave me a tear for 4 year old David Brown. I would definitly recommend.

If you go down to the woods today... beware!

Super story with some fantastic characters. I loved the insidious menace of "becoming" and the way it corrupted characters that you felt empathy for but ultimately wanted to fail. Grim, gory and glorious in equal measure.

Not for me.

I love Stephen King but I didn’t like this book. It was too descriptive and drawn out for me.

Original story but goes on a bit

I love King's older books and this one is better than I remembered. Saying that, I did find the ending went on and on and on. Definitely worth listening to though.

It got there in the end

Unusual for me to find a king novel overly long, but given the events in Tommyknockers it felt like about a third too long. Not his most engaging story, but not bad

Tommyknockers

Read the book previously and loved it. Just as good listening to it on audible, Edward Herrmann doing a great job as narrator!

Another Magnificent Epic Tale

The Tommyknockers is one of my very favourite Stephen King books, - I've been a massive fan for many years, The Dark Tower series, The Shining, and The Tommyknockers for me my equally favourites. I'm well aware of King's dislike of the novel which is more a reflection on the time in his life when he wrote it, (the most serious part of his addictions).

So, the story, - The Tommyknockers sees Roberta "Bobbie" Anderson, Western author, discovering something strange in her woods, something buried. Over the days, she becomes more and more obsessed with what is hidden, unaware at first of it's spreading influence, which begins to grip the town of Haven.

Meanwhile, Jim Gardner, (drunk, poet, potential suicide), after a wild poetry reading finds himself pulled into Haven, and the growing bizarre events, - the population are constructing strangely genius devices, they are slowly changing into something else, people mysteriously disappear, the buried ship's infectionious influence spreads. And Jim finds himself trapped.

The Tommyknockers is a genuinely eerie, epic sci-fi story, extremely well written, (as always), - here the narrator is absolutely brilliant. A truly great audiobook and a must buy!
