An Enthralling Tale

This book has only intrigue to recommend it. character led there’s not a huge amount of action and frankly, it’s not a patch on belllman & Black the first one I read by this author. It’s a literary nobel with just a whiff of the supernatural that kind of wimps out right at the end though it’s not too bed up to that point. I certainly wanted to know what happened next. The performance wasn’t so bad hough the narrator seemed not to be able to make up her mind which accents to use but otherwise it was well read as you’d expect and pleasant enough though I’d have made it shorter or at least tidied up the ending.

very weak ending

I loved this book and narration - it was clever, gentle, mysterious and best of all it answered all the questions before the story was finished

Magical and beguiling

Beautifully read from the mistress of the small and big screen.
A book that Agatha Christie would have been proud of.
At first you believe the story is quite linear but is in fact far from it!
Read and enjoy - it's a beautifully crafted book.

Loved this one!

I had seen a TV adaptation of this book some years ago and enjoyed that , so when I saw that this title was available, I really wanted to listen. As is so often the case, the book is superior. Some of the author's turns of phrase are really quite poetically beautiful. The presenter is first class and I am looking forward to listening to more of this author's work.

Brilliant story brilliantly told

Beautifully written and exceptional narration.

Emotionally challenging at times and quite complex but the story evolves very well and I was absolutely captivated!

A very sad story with twists and turns. And a wonderful narration by Jenny Agutter.

Sad Tale

I am writing this review before I have even finished the story. I really don't want it to end. Its been my companion on the long walk home after a night shift at the hospital, or when pottering in the garden during a rare free moment. Jenny Agutters superb narration, blends into this beautifully written tale. The characters are definitely unusual, and this somehow makes them very believable. Will try to listen to the rest as slowly as possible, enjoying this immensely.
