Summary

From the number-one best-selling author of The Ashes of London and The Fire Court, this is the fourth instalment in the acclaimed Lydmouth series.

The Korean war rumbles in the background throughout this novel as a reporter is found murdered at the Bathurst Arms, squatters are evicted from a military camp and there are new developments in the three-year-old hunt for a missing teenager. And in spite of all that's going on, Jill Francis, a local journalist, and DI Richard Thornhill find they can no longer resist their feelings for each other.

enthralling listen which keeps you guessing till the end. The character's are consistent. i do find that i have to go back to seek what i think i may have missed with the cut off and change of plot.

Enchanting and enjoyable.

Philip Franks adds hugely to the wonderful writing of Andrew Taylor. The listener becomes part of the village. The accents are wonderful. It's almost as if you know; have met the locals who live and grumble about the place. And the police story is always plausible - even if the town has more that it's fair share of rogues.

Great period piece

Really enjoying this series - and will definitely get the next one. Well narrated too.

Not my cup of tea

I listen to almost everything P. Frank narrates because he is simply amazing but for Lydmouth, A.Taylor and myself, my personal ethics and the moral compass of the key character(s) are not aligned so this is book is not for me - it's all gone a bit "Eastenders"

Old style policing

I’m loath to comment here but frankly I found this book quite dull. Maybe I wasn’t concentrating enough but the threads didn’t join so I couldn’t get into it at all.
The notation was excellent
