Summary

On the eve of the London season, Jane Chance is about to make her entrance into high society. And after a childhood riddled with poverty and hardship, Jane intends to make a good, safe, and sensible marriage. All goes according to plan until a dark, dangerous vagabond helps her rescue a dog.

Zachary Black is all kinds of unsuitable - a former spy, now in disguise, he's wanted for murder. His instructions: to lie low until his name is cleared. But Zach has never followed the rules, and he wants Jane Chance for his own. If that means blazing his way into London society in whatever guise suits him, that's what he'll do.

Jane knows that she shouldn't fall in love with this unreliable if devastatingly attractive rogue. But Zach is determined - and he's a man accustomed to getting what he wants.

Lovely

Almost enjoyable story and very good narration. It's a feel good book with a rather mawkish ending.

Another wedding in Hanover square

Rather odd to follow. With a wild variety of characters. Will they or won't they?

A joy to listen to!

I love Anne Gracie’s books, they are delightfully entertaining. Alison Larkin’s narration is brilliant and turns the book into something that leaves the husband unfed and the dog unwalked. Marvellous stuff to return to over and over again.

Frustrated by mispronunciations

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, rather too much attention paid to how busy Daisy was which seemed irrelevant but maybe will be important in the next book.

Anne Gracie does need to take control of who is booked to narrate though, this one is better than the terrible woman who narrated the first Merridew book but please someone give her a list of handy pronunciations for the regency period!!!

Ton was consistently mispronounced
Laudanum was also mispronounced so badly I laughed out loud and there are others.

Overall worth listening to ☺️

Third installement does disappoint

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

After two really nice books, the series has come to a low, but I will not resist listening to the last, where the characters are I think more interesting.

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Gracie again?

I just admitted I will.

What three words best describe Alison Larkin’s performance?

The narrator should always look up words unknown to her. She mispronounced for example Laudanum and Adieu. How one could not know how to pronounce Adieu is beyond me. Her male voice seem to become worse instead of better.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Spring Bride?

The hero supposedly has killed five men in the line of duty, but where in the previous book disapproving parents had quite an impact on the hero, he did not suffer from any post traumatic stress disorder, which was too much! There is not much godness in here, but maybe if one cut the whole murder bit and made it a novella. Then again maybe not.

Any additional comments?

I did enjoy the first two books and will give the fourth a chance.
