Summary

Her World-Altering Secret Can’t Be Hidden Much Longer

Elloren Gardner hides the most powerful secret in all Erthia - she is the Black Witch of Prophecy, and destined to triumph…or be used as the ultimate weapon of destruction.

Separated from everyone she loves, isolated and hunted, Elloren must turn to the last person she can trust - her fastmate, Commander Lukas Grey. With the Mage forces of Gardneria poised to conquer all of Erthia, Elloren has no choice but to ally with Lukas and combine their power to keep herself out of the hands of Gardnerian leader Marcus Vogel…the holder of the all-consuming Shadow Wand.

With just weeks to train to become a warrior, and no control over her magic, Elloren finds unexpected allies among those under orders to kill her. It’s time to step up. To fight back. And to forge onward through the most devastating loss yet.

Critics are raving about Laurie Forest’s incredible debut, The Black Witch:

“Forest uses a richly imagined magical world to offer an uncompromising condemnation of prejudice and injustice.” (Booklist, starred review)

“Exquisite character work, an elaborate mythology, and a spectacularly rendered universe make this a noteworthy debut, which argues passionately against fascism and xenophobia.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“This briskly paced, tightly plotted novel enacts the transformative power of education, creating engaging characters set in a rich alternative universe with a complicated history that can help us better understand our own.” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

"flares" and "lines" ALL THE TIME, aaargh!!

I haven't noticed this in the other books, but in this one I was going mad around 1/3rd through about how many times the words "lines" and "flared" were used/ "a flare of fire went through my lines". I swear, it must be at least every 3rd page or the likes when we follow Elloren and it was making me so annoyed I almost gave up the book! And I've really liked this series up till now. It was endless "ooh, our magic is connected!! See, my fire-lines flare"-repetition to me -_- Editor pls

Definitely Worth It!!

WOW 😮 just... WOW!!

What a whirlwind from beginning to end, certainly not disappointed.

Please please do not leave such a gap in between audiobooks - I don’t think I could take waiting so long for the next instalment as it was almost 2 years!

Waiting in anticipation 🥰

Too long

It's not terribly bad , but honestly the story has progressed very little , for almost 20 hours of narration, I'm so happy that i didn't bother with the prequels.

This book is dull

I have been really enjoying the black witch chronicles. This book in my opinion is completely pointless. The main character is really annoying. You would think that by the 3 books she would be starting to get ‘harder’ but her constant whining is really really irritating. I will be listening to the last book because I need to know what happens. Also killing off a main character in the prologue was a stub to me, then in chapter one she humping someone else. You could miss this book out and not miss a thing about the story! Narrators accents for characters change throughout this book too, so it can be hard to keep up

Disappoining

Long winded and a bit of a let down following the last ones. Gutted there wasn't more of Dianna and without giving too much away, the LG storyline cut me deep! Still a good story but it felt like it took a while to get to the point.

Not as good as the first two

I found this frustrating. Too much concentration on romance at the cost of developing the story, and in some cases, completely ignoring other charcters who were central to the first two books. I found myself fast fowarding bits because it became tedious.
I hope the next one gets back to involving those great characters and providing more depth, not just being a pseudo Mills & Boon novel about Elloren and - well, whoever her next romantic partner is.

Nothing like the other two

I really wanted to love this. But it seemed like a completely different book to the other two. Can’t say much more without leaving spoilers for this book..but it’s worth having a look at the reviews for this on Goodreads! The character motivations, character actions, character personalities even..none of them seemed to fit with the first two books. That being said, I enjoyed meeting some new character and will continue reading as I hope somehow the series redeems itself with respect to the main characters.

not as good as first two books.

plot seems mostly filler content and story doesn't progress much compared to previous two books.
