Summary

Starseer, pilot, and animal lover Jelena Marchenko wants to prove to her parents that she's ready to captain her own freighter and help run the family business. When she finally talks them into getting a second ship and letting her fly it, it doesn't faze her that the craft is decades old and looks like a turtle. This is the chance she's craved for years.

But it's not long before the opportunity to rescue mistreated lab animals lures her from her parentally approved cargo run and embroils her in a battle between warring corporations. To further complicate matters, her childhood friend Thorian, prince of the now defunct Sarellian Empire, is in trouble with Alliance law and needs her help.

Torn between her duty to her family and doing what she believes is honorable, Jelena is about to learn that right and wrong are never as simple as they appear and that following your heart can get you killed.

Set in the Brilliant fallen Empire Universe

Didn't love quite as much as the 8 fallen empire books (and other spin-offs). Still a very enjoyable read, performance v. good.

Rouge prince

Another romp with characters that grow on you even if you don't like them, joy to read and listen to look forward to more of a similar vein

does not compare to the Fallen Empire

after listening to the Fallen Empire books, I lasted 30 min of this new series that seem to be written with 10-15y.o audience in mind

Wasted opportunity with whiny and irritating protagonist

Shame, but this seems tired and juvenile compared to the preceding series which had a great narrator and exciting interesting mature storyline. Only continuing as fan of the Fallen Empire (FE) series and wish to learn the fates of the characters from FE. Could have been so much better. Main protagonist comes across as as so needy and whiny you half hope she gets a blazer bolt to the head and another character takes over as lead. First Lindsey Buroker book that has disappointed.

Not as good as the original series.

The story is much less engaging than the original 8 books... Franchise fatigue perhaps but I know Lindsay Buroker can do better.
