Quite an enjoyable addition to the story with the leading characters developing. As always, authors always need to take care when using real crimes and the Ripper murders are always a minefield. In the historical note the author talks about a couple of real people and how she didn’t wish to tarnish their names but she doesn’t mention the victims there. It would be easy to create ripper-like killings or change names but in a book that generally steers to the right side of tacky, it’s a shame that it’s powerful men who are protected not the women who were murdered.

Steers a fine line between recognition and exploitation

Likely 'the ripper' was protected but unlikely to write a letter explaining it. Unsigned wouldn't prevent identification and subsequent arrests

Disappointing, seems contrived and poorly thought out
